Thomas Woods Mr.

Neuburger Eng 102-102 18 June 2012 Response Essay Harrison Bergerons World Kurt Vonnegut Jr.s Harrison Bergeron is about Harrison Bergeron who believes he can control the world all by just telling people what to do while they are watching TV. Vonneguts point that societys reliance on the media to tell them what to do is wrong. Vonnegut mentions for his first command what Harrison says, Let the first woman who dares rise to her feet claim her mate and her throne (par 60)! Vonnegut mentions here Harrison is just starting to take over and is looking for a woman to be his Empress by his side. Vonnegut expresses another point of Harrison using his power by talking to the musicians on the TV set, Play your best, he told them, and Ill make you barons and dukes and earls (par 65). Harrison once again uses his control over the media room to pick on even more people this time around. Kurt Vonnegut Jr.s point that todays society reliance on on media to guide their lives is wrong because of the fact that humans are not so easily given in to something like Vonnegut mentions in his writing.
