THE PROPHET
We hear the names Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Baruch, Malachi and Daniel among many names from the biblical readings in the Mass. They are prophets, Gods spokespersons. They are ordinary people chosen by God himself and empowered through His Spirit to speak His message to His people. The common things about prophets are: they are reluctant and feeling unworthy to represent God; they were empowered by Gods Spirit to see visions and able to utter future events and divine actions; with their messages they run against authorities and are often rejected by those who do not accept Gods will, to the point of shedding blood in martyrdom for the cause of the faith. In todays readings, Ezekiel, Paul and Jesus who are real prophets in their own time and place, tell us of the difficulties of a prophets life. Ezekiel was sent to a rebellious people, Paul laments about his personal weaknesses and Jesus was not believed and accepted by his own people. It is not an easy task to work for God, for the devil also works tirelessly in peoples lives. A prophet perseveres in his mission, trusting that God will see the victory of His servant against evil and all difficulties. In our time, bishops and priests are modern day prophets who speak out Gods will especially when the secular authorities act against faith and morality. This is a responsibility for them who were entrusted the office of teachers of faith and morality. In many cases where there is no true freedom of religion, modern day prophets end up giving all they have, including their lives for the sake of the message of truth and salvation. But what they lose on earth is not comparable to what they find in heaven, for God found them worthy of the crown of life. He welcomes them as He calls them good and faithful servants.
Please pray for the following who are ill, their families and those who care for them, especially:
Jordy Adamski, Trisha Alcantara, Meldina Almandrez, Ted Altman, Joe Bachmeier, Cliff Behrens, Sunny & Legaya Bernabe, Mary Brunnhoelzl, Marivie Choi, Patricia Chuilli, Betty Conners, Marlena Daniels, Gary Davila, Rita Doman, Marciano Elias, Bruce Elizondo, Joanne England, Donya Espiritu, Marlen Forbes, Mary Golden, Dicken Hall, Gaye Harkay, Edward Jardell, Sr., Emma Kim, Andy Le, Macario Madrigal, Sue McGee, John McManus, Robert Medina, Vic Miranda, Debbie Oliver, Vilma & Veronica Ortega, Candida Perez, Maria Lourdes Pestao, Isaias Refina, Virginia Reyes, Jane Riner, Gloria Satterwhite, Evelyn Sefkow, Myrna Singca, James Sperbeck, Mary Taylor, Carmen Zuiga Villaseor, Michelle Wadlow, Christy Walton, Robert Whitworth, and Ron Zeunges
