a) Calculate the restoring coefficients 33 and 44 with draft 1 = 6.99 and 2 = 7.01 for the semi submersible platform shown above.
11 m
b) Assume the added mass in heave, A33, is equal to the mass of the platform for both drafts (rough estimate). Find the eigenperiod in heave for the platforms for both drafts, 1 and 2 . c) Check the stability of the platform at the two drafts.
The pontoons have a rectangular cross section and a length of 100m. On each pontoon we find two columns with diameter 6m, and two columns with diameter 8m. With draft 1 we have that 1 = 115, and we can assume that G and B stay unchanged as we change the draft to 2 .

Use Matlab to analyse a linear oscillation problem (free, damped) with mass 33 = 0.5, damping coefficient 33 = 1.5 1 and stiffness (restoring) coefficient 33 = 10/. Show plots like 3-10 in the textbook, and find the period. Increase M, B and C by a factor of 2, one by one, and show and explain the changes for each case. Calculate how large the inertia forces, damping forces, and stiffness forces are compared to each other from the equation of motion for = 0 , 1.5 and 2.5 . Problem 2 Use Matlab to analyse a forced damped oscillation. Use mass 33 = 0.5 , damping 33 = 1.5 1 and stiffness 33 = 10 /. Plot the solution against time and vary the excitation frequency between 2 and 8 rad/sec. Explain the effect of this change. Problem 3
