BURGLARS AID IN ARRESTING CALIFORNIA MAN FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY Earlier this week, a central California man

was arrested for possession of child pornography, after cops received a fortuitous tip from burglars who had stolen some of the mans property, according to an article on CNN. The man who illegally possessed the child pornography was 54 year-old kraig stockyard from Delhi, California. Last month the two burglars, one a 19-year-old and the other a juvenile, broke into stockyards barn and stole around 50 cds, which they believe to be blank. However, they were in for a surprise because when they put the cds into their computer they discovered that some of them contained images of child pornography. This left the burglars in a precarious spot. The wanted to notify the authorities, but that required turning themselves in as robbers. Nevertheless, the burglars decided that turning stockyard into the police was the right thing to do. Afterwards, the police obtained a search warrant and subsequently found more than 1.000 images and videos on various computers and disks in stockyards home. Stockyard has since been arrested for possessing child pornography and was released after posting $25.000 bail. The two burglars have not been arrested, but their case has been sent to the Merced county district attorneys office for review. CRIMINAL ETIQUETTE? Its good to see some etiquette in the criminal world. I guess it reaches you that no matter how bad of a situation that you get yourself into it is always best to tell the truth. I think that these young men should not be arrested, or at least their punishment should be minimal. A general goal of the criminal justice system is to deter people from committing crimes in the future. If these two burglars were to be put in jail it would serve. The exact opposite purpose because it would deter people in similar situations from turning in criminals who they feel may be a danger to society. However, I do not believe that whistle blowing should let all criminals off of the hook, but considering the facts here I think minimal punishment for the burglars would produce a just result.

Nevertheless, these boys did still did rob stockard, which means that it is likely that they will receive some sort of punishment. What do you think?
