2: Op-Amp Applications-I
1. 2. 3. 4. Why operational amplifier is so named? What is differential amplifier? Op amp is a DC-coupled high-gain voltage amplifier. What is DC coupling? What is biasing? Why do we need to do biasing for an amplifier? [Hint: read chapter 4 from Boylestads Electronic Devices and Circuit Theory] 5. What are the five ideal op-amp characteristics? 6. Why open-loop gain in op-amp is not good? 7. What is virtual short circuit and virtual ground? 8. Why do we have virtual short circuit condition in op-amp? 9. Do we have virtual short circuit and virtual ground in non-inverting configuration? 10. Do we have any current going into the inverting/non-inverting input terminal of the op-amp? Justify your answer. 11. What is input offset voltage? Why do we have this voltage? 12. Define input bias current and input offset current. 13. Assume that the biasing voltage for an op-amp is 12 V+ and 12 V-. In the open loop condition if no input signal is provided what would be the output signal? Justify your answer. 14. Through the two input terminals of the op-amp (inverting and non-inverting input) if we provide two 8 V input signals, what would be the output of the amplifier? Write answer for question number 6, 7, 8, 13 & 14 in the lab report.
