READING HOLDER STATION

SUTTONS INDUSTRIAL PARK, READING, BERKSHIRE CONTROL OF MAJOR ACCIDENT HAZARDS REGULATIONS 1999 INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC
Southern Gas Networks (SGN) is the operator of the above site, which is subject to the requirements of the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations 1999 as a result of the maximum quantity of Natural Gas stored on site. The COMAH Regulations require the site operator, SGN, to provide members of the public located within a defined vicinity of this site with the following information. The site is used by SGN to store Natural Gas in two low pressure gasholders. Natural Gas is also contained in the pressure regulating installations, mains and pipelines which form part of the SGN gas supply system. Natural Gas is not a toxic substance, but it is flammable. In the event of a major accident, it is likely that Natural Gas will be released into the atmosphere. Natural Gas would normally disperse safely but, if ignited, could cause a fire. SGN has provided Reading Borough Council and the emergency services with information about possible major incidents on the site. The information has been used to prepare a multi agency off-site emergency plan. Further information on this plan is available from Reading Borough Council at: Reading Borough Council Emergency Planning & Risk Management Officer, Civic Offices, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 7AE Tel: 0118 937 3737 In the unlikely event of a major incident on the site, you should follow the instructions overleaf unless the emergency services advise otherwise. When the site siren is activated, it will warn you of the incident by producing continuous pulsating sound for three minutes. Once the incident is over the all clear alarm (a continuous low pitch sound) will be sounded for three minutes. Please keep this notice in a safe and accessible location so that the instructions may be followed in the event of an emergency at the site.
