    Pupils with frequent exposure to English outside of school showed greater proficiency in writing different text types in Swedish compared to pupils with fewer external contacts. They used a greater variety of linguistic tools to express attitude and gradation. The study results show that external English exposure not only benefits writing everyday language texts, but also supports developing proficiency in more demanding text types by adapting language use appropriately. The author concludes that external English must be considered more in foreign language education planning, and teaching methods should better bridge informal learning experiences and school activities.
