Good morning ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of the Department of Management Studies, Anna University Chennai, we welcome you all to ethos 2012. Every day begins with a prayer. And so does every beginning. So Let us start our programme with a prayer. I now request you all to raise for the TAMIL THAIVAZHUTHU. To start with, let me give you all a glimpse of the Department of Management Studies, fondly called as DOMS. The department of Management Studies was started in the year 1981. It has catered to management education for the past 29 years. The department has 13regular highly qualified expert faculty members. Ever since its inception, DOMS has produced several capable, competent and committed professionals. The spirit of pragmatic enquiry and in depth analysis of the dynamics of business has continued to this day. The programs are designed to bring out and nurture the leadership and organizing skills of the future managers. At DOMS, apart from the regular curriculum, there is an emphasis on guidance and counseling that enables the development of managerial excellence. The modern facilities and competent staff members make DOMS a wonderful place to be, for those pursuing a career in business management. Let me now call upon Dr. L. Suganthi, Head of the Dept, DOMS, Anna University to deliver the welcome address.

Here at ethos, weve invited noted personalities and professionals to interact with you and share their experiences and knowledge with you to enlighten you. In addition, we provide you with several contests like paper presentation, quiz, and many more events, where youll be able to present your views and talents and display your edge over your competitors. It gives me immense pleasure to welcome Prof. Dr. P. Mannar Jawahar, ViceChancellor, Anna University Chennai to ethos 2010. Prof. Dr. P. Mannar Jawahar was born in a small village called PALAMEDU near Madurai . After his schooling and B.Sc course at Madurai , he joined the prestigious Madras Institute of Technology for his Undergraduate Engineering Course in Automobile Engineering. He did his M.E. (Mechanical Engineering) at P.S.G College of Technology, Coimbatore . He completed his Ph.D. at I.I.T. Delhi from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in "Vehicle Dynamics" area. Subsequently he did his Post Doctoral Research work at Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. He has devoted himself towards teaching and research, building and grooming young engineers to face the challenges of the modern world. He joined Anna University , as a faculty in 1978 and rose to the position of a Professor in 1998. He has put in 3 decades of service in the teaching profession in various capacities. Even at the very young age of 39, his leadership qualities were recognized and the University bestowed on him, the Headship of leading the Department of Automobile Engineering. He was Head of the Department of Automobile Engineering at M.I.T campus of Anna University for 3 tenures and was Head of the Department of Production Technology at M.I.T for a span. Prof. Dr. P. Mannar Jawahar is a pragmatist and a reformer. During his term as Director, Centre for University-Industry Collaboration he was responsible for the Placement & Training Activities at Anna University . He was also instrumental in starting the novel and innovative programme called Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme (TNSLPP) which is beneficial for the students studying in all the SelfFinancing Engineering Colleges throughout Tamil Nadu. He has been providing encouragement and support for all students, particularly the students from rural backgrounds. He has always been proactive in providing the best learning environment to the student community. The growing popularity of this University in providing quality education has created a great demand overseas. He has initiated a number of MoUs between Anna University and foreign Universities like Osaka City University , Maastricht University , University of Joseph Fourier , France and Industries like Cognizant Technologies Solutions, AIEMA, NISSAN, Cypress Semi Conductor Corporation. Prof. Dr. P. Mannar Jawahar is currently the Vice Chancellor of Anna University Chennai, one among the top technological universities in the world and the top technological university in India . He assumed charge in June 2008. I now request Prof. Dr. P.
