PERSONAL RESPONSE The short story I had chosen is Outside The Cabinet-Makers by Scott Francis Fitzgerald.

I found that this novel is very interesting and unique to me. The reason why I said this short story is unique is because it is a story that had another story inside it. It was very different from others short story that i had been read before. The story is about a man telling a story to the girl who might be his daughter. He tells the story while waiting for his wife outside the cabinet makers house. The girl was very excited to listen to that story. Although the man tells a fairytale story to his daughter, but the story look alike real story. The start with the princess are locked down by an evil witches and a cruel ogre that guard the house that the princess had be detained. I thinks this was interesting part in the story that make me question myself what will happen to the princess. Suddenly the man tells there will be a prince and an army of soldier will tries to rescue the princess. In the next part of this story, the writer connects the story with king and queen which worry about their princess. I wondered what the king will do to rescue his daughter. The writer also makes this story become more interesting by make the girl keep questioning his father what will happen next. This urges me more strongly to find out what will happen next. I think that the king will force the army to attack the ogre and the witches. What I had expected is right and the attack the ogre. There were a big fight between the army and the ogre and the army win the battle and had been successful to rescue the prince. At this time i think that it will be a happy ending in this short story like another short story. But the writer makes an unexpected ending. The prince who tries to save the prince is killed in action. I was very shock with this ending. But the writes also add extra surprise when the king and the queen also died at the end of the story. It was unexpected ending for me. What is really happen at the ending of this story is the princess becomes a queen at last to replace her mother who died before this. It was a tragic ending for me because the princess cannot be with the persons she loved although her had been rescued. I feel very pity to the princess. I was satisfied with this short story.
