PowerMan Transfer Switches

PowerMan Transfer Switches

Taking control of shore and generator power
The PowerControl function of the Phoenix Multi and the PowerAssist function of the Phoenix MultiPlus combined inverter / battery chargers open new horizons with respect to management of the AC power supply. When installing an automatic transfer switch to source AC power from 2 alternative supplies, such as shore / generator power on a yacht, it is important that PowerControl and/or PowerAssist remain functional. It is also very convenient to achieve uninterrupted power so that sensitive equipment, and also the digital clocks and settings of modern entertainment and household equipment continue to operate without disruption during transfer of the load from one AC source to the other. This can be achieved with the new PowerMan range in combination with the Phoenix Multi/MultiPlus. See also the paper Explaining the Multi/MultiPlus - downloadable from our website www.victronenergy.com for application examples. PowerMan-0 series Simple break before make switch with generator priority and timer to delay transfer of the load to the generator to 1 minute after starting. AC current measurement remains internal to the Multi/MultiPlus, and power management is achieved with the standard Multi Control Panel. 3 Models: . PowerMan 230/16-0: both inputs rated at 16 A
(h x w x d: 300x380x210 mm, 7 kg)

. PowerMan 230/40-0: shore 16 A and generator 40 A

(h x w x d: 300x380x210 mm, 8 kg)

. PowerMan 230/80-0: shore 16 A and generator 80 A

(h x w x d: 300x380x210 mm, 9 kg)

PowerMan-1 series: the high power Multi/MultiPlus bypass The maximum feedthrough current of a Multi/MultiPlus is 16 A. When Multis are paralleled the maximum allowable feedthrough current increases accordingly, however to a maximum of 32 A. When the required feedthrough current exceeds 16 A with 1 Multi, or 32 A with 2 or more Multis a PowerMan-1 Multi bypass switch is needed. The PowerMan-1 has a current limit panel (similar to the Multi Control Panel) to set the maximum AC current. The PowerMan-1 is intended for a single AC source. 2 Models: . PowerMan 230/40-1: input rated at 40 A and with 0 to 40 A current limit panel (300x380x210 mm, 11kg) . PowerMan 230/80-1: input rated at 80 A and with 0 to 80 A current limit panel (500x500x210 mm, 22kg)

PowerMan-2 series The PowerMan-2 is a transfer switch and a Multi/MultiPlus bypass in one. It comes with 2 current limit panels to independently set the maximum AC current from both AC sources. The internal current limit panel is used to set the maximum generator current, and the external PowerMan Control Panel can be used to set the current of the alternative source, e.g. shore power. 2 Models: . PowerMan 230/40-2: shore 16 A and generator 40 A and with an internal 0 to 40 A current limit panel
(h x w x d: 600x380x210 mm, 22 kg)

. PowerMan 230/80-2: shore 16 A and generator 80 A and with an internal 0 to 80 A current limit panel

The second external current limit panel can be specified for 0 to 16 A, or 0 to 32 A. This PowerMan Control Panel is very similar to, but not interchangeable with the Multi Control Panel.

Filax: the ultra fast transfer switch The Filax has been designed to switch sensitive loads, such as computers or modern entertainment equipment from one AC source to another. The priority source typically is the mains, a generator or shore power. The alternate source typically is an inverter. With its switching time of less than 20 ms sensitive loads will continue to operate without disruption. The Filax is not intended to supply high power household equipment like washing machines or electric motors. Because it is a fast switch, the Filax will transfer the load to the alternate source even in case of short voltage dips (4 to 12 ms) or unstable frequency. Operating the Filax with a generator can therefore result in transfer of the load to the alternate source whenever a sudden load variation occurs. The feedthrough switch in the Multi/MultiPlus is equally fast. We therefore recommend to use a Multi or MultiPlus instead of an inverter and a Filax whenever the load exceeds 700 W / 800 VA. The PowerMan transfer switch is not fast. In case of the PowerMan uninterrupted AC supply is achieved thanks to one or more Multi/MultiPlus units which will carry the load through an AC break.
