Skeet Trap vs. Trap Shooting Trap and skeet shooting are different form of shotgun shooting.

Both form of shooting involve shooting of clay pigeons. But the main difference between trap and skeet shooting is that, in trap shooting the shooter has one location or one target where the pigeons are thrown out whereas in case of skeet shooting the shooter has two location or target where the pigeons are thrown out. Trap shooting came into existence and is a part of sport since year 1793 when real bird is used for it. On the other hand Skeet shooting was discovered very lately. Charles Davies an avid grouse hunter invented Skeet shooting in the year 1920. The name Trap shooting came from the fact that live pigeons were held in a box and the shooter has to target the pigeon in that trap. But Skeet shooting naming has a different history. After the invention and evolution, a contest was held on February 1926 with 100$ as the winning prize. The chosen winning entry was Skeet which was named by Gertrude Hurlbutt and the word is derived from Scandinavian word for shoot-(skjuta). Both trap and skeet has only one aim and thats none other than shooting at clay pigeons on a range using shotguns but skeet is more difficult and tough. This is simply because trap shooting include targets varying it height and angle for only one object and skeet include double targeting of double objects with varying height and angle of individual object. That makes Skeet shooting arduous. In Trap shooting the shooter has only one target and are permitted to shoot from 5 different positions with a distance raging from 16 27 yards back from the tarp house whereas in case of Skeet shooting the shooter has 2 trap house to target at and are permitted to shoot from only 8 different positions following a pattern of semicircle with a radius of around 21 yards, and the 8th position is the midpoint of the position of 7 and position 1. Any shotgun gauge of range up to 12 gauge can be used for Trap shooting but shotgun with bore size . 410 cannot be used for Trap shooting. However, Skeet shooting is shot with four gauges that is 12, 20, 24 and .410. For Trap shooting single shot guns, over/unders for double trap and semi automatics guns(singles and doubles) are used, while on the other hand pumps, over/unders and semi automatics guns are used for Skeet shooting. There is two version of Trap Shooting and they are formally known as Olympic Trap and double Trap. However, Skeet doesnt have as such versions. Summary: 1. Trap shooting has one target or trap house while Skeet has two targets or trap house. 2. In trap shooting, shooter can shoot from 5 different positions whereas in skeet shooting shooter can shoot from 8 different positions. 3. Trap shooting was invented and considered as a part of sports prior to skeet shooting. 4. Shotgun of bore size .410 cannot be used in trap shooting but shotgun of that bore size is allowed for skeet shooting. 5. Trap shooting has 2 versions whereas Skeet shooting doesnt have such versions.
