MECA-INOX 2-piece ball valve approved Fire Safe according to EN ISO 10497

MECA-INOX 2-piece ball valves, R2 series, in carbon steel and stainless steel are now qualified Fire Safe according to the new standard EN ISO 10497_2010. EN ISO 10497 cancels and replaces full BS6755 part II, and incorporates the API 607 5th edition (June 2005) & API 6FA 3rd edition (June 1998) requisitions. DN qualified : DN 15 to DN 100. PN qualified : PN 16 to PN 40 Product tested : carbon steel and stainless steel DIN 2-piece ball valve, DN 50 PN 40 Seats : PTFE & +20%PEEK PTFE qualified (R2S & R2Z) Body seal : graphit Gland packing : graphit Approval EN ISO 10497_2010 is more demanding than previous BS 6755 part II : Indeed, this new standard requires a cooling spray directly onto the valve by dropping temperature from 1000 C to 100 C in 10 min, causing a thermal shock. This major modification of the Fire safe standard has evoluted to more realistic fire conditions, based on the firefighters water jet. BS 6755 part II, meanwhile, preconizes a natural cooling in ambient air, down to 100 C. Tolerance to leakage during the test is slightly higher, however, the leakage rate allowed after test, were divided by 8: Example of allowable leakage after test for valve DN 50 (2'') BS 6755 part II : 200ml/inch/min --> 200 ml x 2'' = 400 ml/min EN ISO 10497 : 50 ml/min COMPARATIVE TABLE OF THE 2 STANDARDS Standard BS 6755 part II Combustible Test Fluid Heating Temperature Burn Time Low pressure Allowable leakage Internal leakage at high temperature High pressure Allowable leakage After cooling water External leakage at high temperature Low pressure Allowable leakage Gas Water 650C - 980C 30 min 2,8 bars 40 ml/inch/min 30 bars 400 ml/inch/min no test 2,8 bars 20 ml/inch/min EN ISO 10497 Gas Water 650C - 1000C 30 min 2 bars 200 ml/min 30 bars 800 ml/min 80 ml/min 2 bars 50 ml/min
