Presidents Report from Kristin Ballard

This week should have been easier but again time with my in-laws in hospital Calvary yesterday from 9.30am to 8.15pm apart from anything else I think I know where every car parking area is at all three hospitals! Things not great for Neville but we hope he may now get some proper attention from the specialists. Our guest speaker for last weeks meeting was Ross Connell, St John Ambulance Service and scouts, and he gave us a brief history of the service and what they do in the community. He then spoke of his other love the scouts telling us about one of their projects the launch of the scouts hot air balloon and the plans to train the senior scouts as pilots for the balloon. What a way to keep the senior scouts committed. And we were delighted to receive a donation from the St Ambulance Service of a first aid kit and an invitation to do any of their courses on first aid. We welcomed Natalie back from her and Andrews holiday in the USA and congratulated both of them on their engagement. We also admired the stud ring (I think thats right) the real one is coming! Tonight is our Board meeting where one of the things we will discuss will be our final spending on service projects for the year see you all there.

HOME IN QUEANBEYAN FUNDRAISING MOVIE NIGHT 25 MAY 2012

The Movie - The Lives of Others The Lives of Others is an intense thriller which begins in East Berlin in 1984, five years before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Both a political thriller and human drama, the film takes place at a time when the Stasi (East German secret police) were all powerful and traces the gradual disillusionment of Stasi spy, Security Captain Gerd Wiesler. Wiesler is assigned to monitor every aspect of the lives of a glamorous couple - playwright Georg Dreyman and actress Christa-Maria Sieland - who've come under suspicion. But gradually he becomes entranced by their lives and tries to protect them both... The Lives of Others won the 2006 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and seven German Film Awards including best film, best director, best screenplay, best actor and best supporting actor.
