This is not a proud moment for me and for many who loves Guwahati. Guwahati to me is a city of love and exuberance; a city that unbinds itself in the songs of Bihu and bestows upon couples the freedom of togetherness. When I first came to the city, I found enchantment in seeing young hearts throbbing every nook and corner; in park, in bazaar, in restaurants. I was then wondering isnt there a sense of insecurity, a sense of risk in them? I understood culture administers life. If I am not exaggerated, I would say Guwahati accepts love, the most reproached thing in some of our Indian societies. In my opinion, Right to Love is one of the major attributes of a liberal humanist society. In such a mighty-heart city, where people are given freedom to live their dreams and wishes, what rot had taken over those city dwellers who brought disgrace to a teenage girl publicly with no reason. The newspapers and TV channels are making their headlines over the incident and web is going wild by videos and comments. I am pondering and persuading myself to the incident. These bodies have cited specific instances of anomalies and irregularities as well as malpractices. They have been persistently hammering for the dissolution of the irregularly formed interim committee of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council headed by Kartik Sena Sinha, former MLA, on grounds of questionable utilization of government allotted funds of Rs 2.60 crore during 2010-11 and 2011-12. They have at the same time been clamouring for action against the members of the committee involved in corruption and formation of a new committee of the Development Council. It is surprising I have seen many collegemates and others who failed to get into the media despite having all the educational qualification, references, and skill. There is no direct and easy path to join media houses. However, here are some of the tips (or steps) that I have followed to get into the media. And I hope these tips would help anyone who is interested to land a job in this sector.
REGIONAL/LOCAL PRESS
Visit and submit your resume in the local and regional media houses. This is the best platform for justout-of-college graduates to hone their skill.
PRACTICE WRITING
Nothing supersedes your talent than your writing skill. Practice, practice, and practice. Practice news writing, practice to write human interest stories...
READ
As a journalist you should update your knowledge and awareness of everything under the sun. For this, the only mantra is to read extensively. Read newspapers, magazines, books on different topics to update yourself.
PUBLISH
Try to publish your pieces. At the beginning it is very tough to publish your work, but if you try hard with good sense of timing, you can hit the nail. Write on relevant topics.
MAINTAIN A BLOG
Create a blog and give it a shape that reflects your talent (that is your writing talent). This would not only help you to show your writing skill but also your web savvyness since most of the media houses have gone online.

He said that the Bishnupriya Manipuris' is a virgin market that, if tapped in the right way, can pay a huge dividend. Adding to it, one thing that he mentioned is very much futuristic, especially at this time equalizing Bishnupriya Manipuri newspapers or magazines as products. So, whoever ventures into filling up the vacuum has to tread the road with care, with the product concept in mind and soul. Equating Market with Bishnupriya Manipuri, today one can take it as a joke. But, who knows, these two stuff could become one; consequently creating a self-sustaining platform for the betterment of the Bishnupriya Manipuri people. However, media history teaches us that establishment of such products has not been easy ever, especially when the market is limited. But it has not been impossible either. The sore truth about the present state of Bishnupriya Manipuri media ventures is not secret to anybody. Everybody knows it. There is time and money constraint whoever is devoted to it. And those who are running it are running for the sake of creative and intellectual juice which they get. At the present era, when communication is real time and there is no technological and geographical limitation, something that astounds us is the fact that a community of 5 lakh cannot, yes cannot create, one media house; it is irony that a population of 1 lakh is enough to grow and sustain a media venture.

India in 80s
RK Rishikesh Sinha India of 80s was probably the last peaceful India where people led a simple and sober lifestyle away from the rat-race of today. Your neighborhood was truly yours. Your nearby bazaar or shop was the extension of your life. The area in which you live was your extended family. That was the character of the time life seemed to be so beautiful in its true meaning. People were happy in small things.
DOORDARSHAN DAYS
Doordarshan logo Having a black and white Weston or Tesla television set was a luxury. That was the time in which a passerby could enter anyones house to watch serials like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Chitrahaar, an 8.30 pm entertainment programme, was the one and only entertainment dose which seemed to be rationed to the mass (leaving the Sunday reserved for an oldie-goldie film). Another aspect of that period; children feared death of a national leader since Doordarshan goes to the state of mourning. A house with a television set was easy to detect since the house had antenna.
FEISTY SUNDAY
Sunday was full of fun and frolic. It was the day to catch entertainment programmes in a nearby house and play to the fullest with your neighbourhood friends. Sunday was not less entertaining than any festival. Children spent rest of the week talking about their activities with their friends.
KEROSENE STOVE
It was very common to find kerosene stoves in homes. It was the same period when kerosene stoves were being replaced by LPG Gas connection.
GADGETS
Sony's Walkman Besides television set, it was the period of VCDs, VCRs, PHILIPS taperecoder, radio, and camera. There were video parlours that stocked movies in ones locality. There was another gadget for music lovers Sonys Walkman.
PERIOD OF RE-DISCOVERY
It seems awkward today that movies like Sholay (released in 1975) and Bruce Lees Enter the Dragon (1971) were a topic of discussion on entertainment. Praise the technology that rediscovered the old stuff and brought it to homes.
NO-MONEY TALK
Discussion on money never entered into camaraderie. People abstain talking about money matters. A person was not judged with his bank balance but with his character. Bishnupriya Manipuri Online June 2012 http://bishnupriyamanipuri.blogspot.in
