Model SG800 Series of Stack Gas Analyzing Systems

GENERAL
The SG800 Series of Stack Gas Analyzing Systems consist of an infrared gas analyzer, a zirconia oxygen analyzer and a sampling unit. The SG800 Series can simultaneously measure up to five components: sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2).

FEATURES
1. Simultaneously measure up to five gas components: Using a combination of infrared gas analyzer(s) and a dedicated zirconia oxygen detector, an SG800-series analyzer can simultaneously determine concentrations of up to five gas components NOx, SO2, CO, CO2 and O2. 2. Minimize interaction between gases The use of interference compensation in the analyzing section virtually eliminates the effect of concentration of any gas component on the concentration readings of others. 3. Reliable zirconia oxygen analyzer To measure oxygen concentration, the SG800 can incorporate a Zirconia oxygen detector with superior long-term stability and excellent reliability. 4. A wealth of functions, including self-diagnostic functions which enhance reliability The system features many functions built-in autocalibration, conversion to O2-based values, averaging, high alarms, etc. 5. Wide dynamic range SG800-series analyzer systems have high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, allowing for switched ranging of up to 1:20.

from sample gas. Can view filter condition from front. (6) Flowmeter: Adjusts and monitors the flow rate of sample gas. (7) NO2/NO Converter: Used to reduce the effect of NO2 on NOx or SO2 readings, this converter uses a special catalyst that efficiently converts NO2 gas into NO gas. The catalyst is replaced at approx. 8-month intervals (when NO2 concentration rises to 10 ppm). (8) Zirconia oxygen analyzer: Used in combination with the infrared gas analyzer. (9) Reference gas: Used for analyzer zero and span calibration. When the Zirconia oxygen analyzer is used, instrument or atmospheric air (of dew point -10C or less) can be used for zero calibration of NO, SO2, CO and CO2 analyzers and for span calibration of oxygen analyzer. (10) Solenoid valve: Used for feeding calibration gases.

(*1) When wiring the power supply to the heater of the Type M1E and M2E filtering probes, use a heatproof cable equivalent to JIS C3323-KGB. (*2) When the temperature at a sampling point is lower than the acid dew point (approx. 150C), use Type M1E or M2E filtering probes. As condensation tends to form on the mounting point of the probe, this point needs to be insulated or heated to more than the acid dew point (approx. 150C) (heating/ insulation to be provided by customer). For details, refer to pages 20 and 21.

2.2 Probes and external primary filters The probe should be selected according to dust volume, moisture content, temperature and SO2 concentration range. The external primary filter should be selected according to the heating method (utility). For the conditions in selecting a probe and an external primary filter, refer to Table 2, Selection of Probe and External Primary Filter in the Inquiry Form on pages 23, 24.

*1 For details of the measuring range, refer to Table 4, Measuring Ranges of Single-Component Analyzing System, on page 12, and Tables 5, 6 and 7, Combinations of Components and Measuring Ranges on the Dual-Component Analyzing system, on page 12. The description under the suffix code of measurable components corresponds to components 1, 2, 3 and 4 in order. For instance, SG800-C: NOx-SO2-(O2) refers to NOx as component 1 and SO2 as component 2. *2 Choose isolated outputs for external outputs, and non-isolated outputs for recorder outputs. Components (/ -NX) to be logged on the recorder must be specified at order time. Option codes / -NX and / -AX cannot both be chosen for the same component choose either one. If you dont specify output option codes for components, the default is external output. (If you require both recorder and external outputs for any component, fill out a Tokuchu (special order) request. *3 Use Yokogawas R10000 recorder (maximum 6-point recording) for the built-in recorder. For details of the R10000, refer to GS 04P01B01-01E. To use recorders other than the R10000, contact Yokogawa to confirm the specifications including mounting dimensions. *4 Measuring ranges of 0 to 100 ppm or less for SO2 measurement are handled as Tokuchu special orders. *5 Refer to the table below for remote range switching and identification. *6 Ranges of less than 250 ppm for CO analyzer in NOx-CO analyzer are handled as Tokuchu. (The NOx converter and NOx analyzer are physically located after the CO analyzer.) Note: The gas-sampling probe with automatic blowback is handled as Tokuchu.

Example of How to Specify Output Points The figure below illustrates an SG800 with several types of external outputs: three components, SO2, NOx, and CO are being measured simultaneously. The O2 meter is internal. We will specify an isolating converter, and output O2 equivalents for SO2 and NOx measurements, O2 instantaneous value output, and one-hour moving average for CO. We specify the total number of isolated outputs in / - AX (here 04), and the number of these that are converted to O2 equivalents or moving averages in / - AY (here 03). The output type codes are obtained from table 3.

(*1) For each IR analyzer, the following conditions apply to moving average output: You can specify either one-hour or four-hour moving average, but not both. If you specify four-hour moving average, it can apply to only one component. E.g. for SG800-G; NOx - CO - (O2 ) four-hour moving average could be applied to only one component the CO component, for example. One-hour moving average can apply to multiple components. E.g. for SG800-C; NOx - SO2 - (O2 ) one-hour moving average could be applied to both NOx and SO2 , for example. However, in the cases below, two IR analyzers are used, so the above conditions can be applied independently to each. A SG800-H; NOx - SO2 - CO - (O2 ) analyzer consists of two IR analyzers: NOx - SO2 - (O2 ) and CO - (O2 ). A SG800-J; NOx - SO2 - CO - CO2 - (O2 ) analyzer consists of two IR analyzers: NOx - SO2 (O2 ) and CO - CO2 - (O2 ). You can't specify both moving averages and O2-based moving averages.

7. Recorders
A recorder can be installed in the SG800 analyzing system by specifying the option code /M. Use Yokogawas R10000 recorder (maximum 6-point recording) for the built-in recorder. For details of the R10000, refer to GS 04P01B01-01E. To use recorders other than the R10000, contact Yokogawa to confirm the specifications including mounting dimensions. Any signal connected to the recorder cannot also be used as external output. If an external output is required in addition, contact Yokogawa, request Tokuchu. Choose V-DC input as the input signal and 100 V AC as the power supply voltage to the recorder. When the output of the SG800 analyzing system is 4 to 20 mA DC, prepare a 250 ohms shunt resistance.

Typical System Configuration

The stack gas analyzing system consists of the analyzing system and the sampling system for drawing sample gas properly from stack. The following illustrate three typical system configurations: a standard system, a system with thermal sampling tube and a system with external primary filter.

Standard system (Filtering probe + (external drain separator) + analyzing system)

This system is used under the condition where the temperature at a sampling point is higher than the acid dew point (approx. 150C) and less than 700C. When the system is used in the condition where the temperature at a sampling point is lower than the acid dew point (150C), the mounting point of the probe should be insulated and heated to prevent condensation from forming on the probe. The sampling system consists of the filtering probe, the standard sampling tube and the external drain separator. Any of Type F, Type M1E (electric heating) or Type M2E (electric heating) filtering probes should be used. For the selection of filtering probes refer to Table 1 on page 23. An external drain separator may be required, depending on the sample conditions.
An external drain separator is additionally required if any of the following conditions is applicable. * Due to the short distance between probe and analyzing system, length of the tube is not sufficient for cooling sample gas. * Tubing between probe and analyzing system is long; drain may form in the tube, and some components of sample gas may dissolve in drain, causing errors. * Not sufficient tilt (more than 15 .) of the sampling tube is given due to the positions of the probe and the analyzing system. * Tubing is saggy, so this may cause drain to form in the tube. * When the SO2 range is 500 to 1000 ppm, two external drain separators must be used to minimize the dissolution loss of SO2 in drain.

System with thermal sampling tube (Filtering probe + thermal sampling tube + analyzing system)
When the ambient temperature is under 0C where drain may freeze, the sampling tube should be heated to prevent condensation and freezing. If the SO2 concentration is normally below 100 ppm, the thermal sampling tube should be used to prevent the formation of drain that might cause dissolution loss of sample gas. The sampling system consists of the thermal filtering probe and the thermal sampling tube. Either of Type M1E or Type M2E filtering probe should be used. If the system is installed where the temperature at a sampling point is under the acid dew point (approx. 150C), the mounting point of the probe should be insulated and heated. This system cannot be used in combination with the external primary filter.

System with external primary filter (Open-type probe + external drain separator + external primary filter + analyzing system)
This system is applied to where the maintainable filtering probe cannot be installed due to the installation site or the high temperature of sample gas. The system requires the external primary filter to eliminate dust coming through the open-type probe. Drain forming in the tube is eliminated by the external drain separator. The sampling system consists of the opentype probe, the standard sampling tube, the external drain separator and the external primary filter. Either of Type M2 (150 to 800C) or Type M3 (800 to 1400C) open-type probe should be used. Either of Type M1E (electric heating) or Type MS (steam heating) external primary filter should be used.
