ANDERSON BECOMES FIRST REPEAT WINNER OF 2012, PICKS UP TATTERSALL CHALLENGE By: Michael J.

Guglielmucci

Morris, IL- Two weeks ago, Joliets Jimmy Anderson spent the final laps of the Carter/Anderson Classic involved in a violent crash that sent him in the wall and Tom Schnabel tumbling out of the track. Saturday night, Anderson was able to complete the DArcy GMC STARS, Bob Tattersall Classic and pick up win number two on the season. Starting from the pole position, Anderson jumped out to an early and comfortable lead over last weeks winner Billy Hulbert. A lap 17 spin from Aaron Andruskevitch, washed away Andersons lead and bunched up the field. On the restart, Anderson once again pulled away but fast qualifier Brad Greenup was on a charge. Starting from the last spot in the invert all the way in 8th place, Greenup quickly picked up spots and on lap 21 moved into second. His next objective was to catch the leader. It took Greenup 2 laps to get on to Andersons bumper, but there wasnt enough time for Greenup to get around the determined Anderson. It was Andersons second win this season and sixth in the last two years. Greenup, Hulbert, 2011 Rookie of the Year Tyler Trainor and Hot Rod Barn Trophy Dash winner Grant Galloway rounded out the top five. David Gough and rookie Ray Seach posted heat race wins. It was a night of repeat winners in the DArcy GMC STARS series. Greg Ihrke took the win in the Town and Country Lanes Classic Modified division for the second week in a row. Ihrke once again cleaned house by becoming fast qualifier, winning the Hot Rod Barn Trophy Dash and the heat race, all before taking the 20 lap feature event. Following Ihrke at the line was Eric Pershey, Gregg Wills and Ken Nona. Current Classic Modified points leader Erica Ensor rounded out the top five. A familiar face also graced victory lane in the INEX Legends division on Saturday night. Andy Jones brought home his fourth win in five races on the 2012 season. Jones edged out Rachael Pinkerman, Brian Tedeschi, Drew Higginson and Johnny Kringas at the checkered flags. Jones passed Pinkerman on lap 2 and led the final 18 laps en route to victory. Jones was the fast qualifier and Hot Rod Barn Trophy Dash winner. Johnny Kringas picked up the heat race win. The DArcy GMC STARS series returns to the Grundy County Speedway on August 4th for the coveted Illinois State Championship presented by the Chicagloand Speedway. Previous winners of this event include current NASCAR Camping World Truck series and Nationwide Stock car series driver Parker Klingerman, USAC National Midget Drivers Mario Clouser and former WOOM Champion Don Carter, Jr. Current STARS and USAC D1 points leader Jimmy Anderson will be looking to defend his 2011 Illinois State Championship title. Grandstand gates open at 5:00 pm with the first race starting at 6:30 pm.
