COMMERCIAL E-NEWSLETTER | JULY 2012

Greetings, At Z, we believe in being straight up and sharing everything, in fact these are two of our brand values. What this means is that we want to share information with you which will better enable you to do business with us. One of the ways we are doing this is compiling a Market Outlook report and making this available to our commercial customers. The Market Outlook is a solely factual report collating opinions and facts about things that influence the fuel industry and the barrel price. It does not represent Zs view nor is it a recommendation from Z on future prices. If you would like to have a read of this fortnights edition then you can follow this link: z.co.nz/about-z/news/market-outlook-report/ Good communication means listening as well as speaking. We would love to hear from you about what you think, so please do take the time to send us an email at general@z.co.nz, or call us on 0800 474 355, if you have something youd like to share with us. Until next time, Lindis Jones GM Commercial

So weve Zed all of New Zealand

In the past year weve rebranded 94 truck stops, 208 service stations and 50 more have a fancy new store. Weve rebranded 71 airfields, 18 aviation refuelling vehicles and 745 assets on customer sites. As of 1 July, we are fully branded Z, phew an enormous task managed and implemented by some very capable people. Wed like to thank you, our commercial customers for your support and patience while some sites have been closed or under construction. Weve got a lot of exciting opportunities and developments in the pipeline. A highlight is working with EROAD, a company that provides a technology platform to modernise New Zealands paper based Road User Charge regime and provide advanced solutions to commercial operators. Another of our developments is upgrading the technology on all our truck stops to Fusion 6 terminals. This upgrade will minimise downtime and speed up transaction processing times, enabling you to get in and get out in less time and with less disruption to your day. Thank you again, and keep reading the Energy Drop for more exciting updates. z.co.nz/about-z/who-is-z-energy/our-story/how-wegot-to-z/

Z Sanson is coming to life

In May we told you about Shell Sanson being knocked down and completely rebuilt. We are now five weeks into the build with the site due to open on 20 August. Z Sanson will include a new retail store complete with espresso coffee, great pies, hotel quality Z toilets, an eight lane toll gate forecourt and a three lane truck stop facility. This photo shows the site works and fuel pipework in progress. We will show you some more photos of the completed site once it is done in August.

EROAD saves Calcon time and money

We think EROAD, a New Zealand transport technology and services company, can really add value to our customers businesses through its ability to provide technology to help keep Road User Charge (RUC) compliance costs down. One of our customers, Calcon Limited, has seen first hand how much money can be saved through their relationship with Z and EROAD.
Fleet Manager Martin Paardekooper was getting frustrated with the long time it took to apply for RUC and the amount of money it cost the company through peoples time. He decided to do some research to find a better way. After much research, EROAD and their ERUC technology were clear winners and the technology has already paid for itself. When you consider elements like the time it takes to do the administration for RUC per month, mechanical hubo replacement and off road mileage administration costs, the ERUC works out as costing about the same as Martins current process. However, the real benefits for Martin of EROADs technology are things like improvement in accuracy, total compliance at all times and being able to monitor where his fleet are and how much fuel theyre using. There are other advantages too, like alerts for service requirements, being able to monitor actual vehicle speeds and idle times. These elements enable improved operator and driver behaviour. If you would like any more information about how EROAD can help your business, then please contact your Z Account Manager or call us on 0800 474 355. Z is working with EROAD to provide fuel consumption reports to our mutual customers so they can manage their fuel spend.

Z partners with emerging Kiwi rally talent, Hayden Paddon

In June, Z Energy announced a sponsorship partnership with emerging Kiwi rally talent, Hayden Paddon. Hayden placed 12th at the recent New Zealand leg of the FIA World Rally Championship in Auckland and is a real star of the future.
Z Energy Fuels Marketing Manager, Tim Rosenbrook, said he was thrilled for Z to be supporting a young Kiwi driver who is making great progress on the world rally stage. We reckon Hayden will be a great Z brand ambassador and role model for young Kiwis. Tim also felt that it was a great opportunity for Z to see Hayden putting the ZX Premium fuel through its paces. Our agreement will see Z support Haydens demanding world rally circuit campaign, with Hayden in return assisting Z in the promotion of Zs fuels portfolio, including our brand new 95 octane ZX Premium fuel, said Tim. Hayden said it was great for his team to establish a partnership with Z Energy as a leading local company. We share common Kiwi values and what Z is trying to achieve in New Zealand mirrors the success we are trying to achieve in the World Rally Championship. Tim Rosenbrook said Hayden was particularly impressive due to his clarity of goals, including his aim to be World Rally Champion in 2015, and the clear commitment to his career path.

Serious about safety

We take health and safety very seriously at Z. In order to meet our goal of Zero Harm we make sure we monitor and record all instances of safety breaches. It matters to us that we protect our customers and staff from getting hurt so we are committed to eliminating all risks at all times. We contend with a whole lot of potential harm to people and the environment on a daily basis. Incidents that occur on our sites can range from trips and falls to a passer-by setting a rag on fire and throwing it onto the forecourt. To mitigate these risks we have strict rules and procedures in place. Recently, a customer was injured after they put petrol into a container instead of diesel. The fuel was then used to run a water blaster that subsequently caught fire and burnt the customers hand. Had the customer followed our instructions and used a container that was clearly labelled diesel and checked it, this incident could have been avoided. So, while some people think that sometimes we are too black and white about safety, we would rather err on the side of caution than have someone get hurt. If we ever advise you to stick to certain HSSE rules that we have, please know that this is because we really care about your health and safety and are committed to keeping you safe.
