TORONTO MANAGER JOHN FARRELL On Romeros performance Improved. I thought he pitched with much more conviction. I thought he attacked the strike zone early in the count. He mis-located some fastballs, particularly in the first inning. Couple of pitches were up, left a breaking ball inside to Ackley to get things going. Saunders lays down a good bunt. They bunched some hits together. The 3rd run, he contributed to with a couple of pitches out of the zone that Jeff couldnt handle. I think overall, there was much more conviction and trust and belief in his stuff, evident by the first pitch strikes. He used his fastball more aggressively. Still not to the point where weve seen Ricky pitch many times before, but I think this is a step in the right direction with the overall mound presence, body language, and the overall attack plan. He didnt contribute [to the Mariners runs] with a bunch of walks weve seen in recent starts. From that aspect, this was a step in the right direction. Thoughts on Brad Lincoln, the Blue Jays new relief pitcher Hes had an outstanding year with the Pirates. Has really emerged as a late-inning reliever for them. Were parting ways with a young, talented outfielder in Travis. [Hes] still trying to get established on an everyday basis in the big leagues, but we felt like we gave up a quality player to get a guy thats starting to come into his own in Lincoln. Hes started throughout his minor league career. He was a high pick for them, but right now we envision him in the bullpen. Thats where hes flourished. Thats where hes seem to come into his own at the big league level. On Iwakumas performance He was outstanding after the leadoff home run by Davis. Very good fastball location, good slider, very good split. Much better split than we saw in the relief appearance earlier in the year. He dominated us after the first hitter of the game.
