Spotlight on . . .

MAKING EVERY CHRISTIAN A MISSIONARY

Drs. Korshie Dumor & Evelyn Aboagye

I first attended First Assembly of God a few months after our move and feel blessed to be part of the body of Christ. Being physicians is a calling for both of us. I always knew I would be a doctor since I was 8yrs old. Pediatrics became a chosen path through my work with children in medical missions in Ghana. Personally, the death of my younger brother in my arms 10 days after being diagnosed with leukemia was life changing. Two days earlier, he had talked about heaven and the testimony of Gods healing. It is our prayer that God will order our steps that we may live a purpose-driven life and thus fulfill our calling. -Evelyn Aboagye

My family moved to Rolla about two years ago to work at Mercy Clinic. My husband, Korshie Dumor is an internist and I am a pediatrician. We are from Ghana in West Africa and blessed with 3 children, Eyram (Gods blessing), Seenam (Gods gift), and Keli (Gods light). Kosh and I met in medical school. Weve journeyed together since then. He loves God and I am grateful for each moment we share together. He is amazing! Ramie (Eyram) is full of life, with an inquisitive mind and plays big sister well. Seese (Seenam) is kind hearted, very competitive and has knowledge beyond her years. Keli is a joy to be around with, is patient, loves cars, and has a teachable spirit.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer [supplication] of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16 (ESV)
What is effectual prayer? It is capable prayer, but not necessarily is clever or skillful. Rather it is prayer that it is lifted in boldness and in confidence. Effectual prayer finds its capability in complete submission and utmost reliance on the Holy Spirit. Effectual prayer is effective. It leaves the lips of the righteous, and enters right into the ears of God Like well designed circuitry, it moves through a divine conduit and takes the matters of man to the throne room of God. It doesnt miss the mark, but targets the need with the truth and righteousness of God. Like lightning, it strikes with accuracy and power to ignite a fire in the heavenlies, and stir the heart of a Savior who acts on behalf of His people to rout the enemy. Effectual prayer is powerful prayer uttered by the Holy Spirit. It is prayer that is translated into the presence of God, with a language that somehow trans-

forms the burdens of our hearts into intercessory arrows that invade the encampment of the evil one. Effectual fervent prayer is passionate prayer that moves the hand of a Mighty God, who chooses to do the impossible because He delights in those prayers. It is not indifferent, nor is it detached from a strong belief that Gods desire is for His people. It is prayer that not only believes God can, but also trusts that He will. It is ardent prayer that will not relent. Mark Batterson, in his teaching series on prayer says, Sometimes we stop just short of a miracle. Has the Lord called you to intercede for something or someone? I believe greater things are yet to come. As we prepare the way for the journey through the remainder of the year, lets press in and not give up, offering up that effectual fervent prayer.

The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the Good News is preached to the poor. Matthew 11:5
There is a growing need for the expertise of medical professionals on missions trips. A quick Google search will show that many organizations sponsor medical missions trips. This month I'd like to tell you a little about the Assembly of God's HealthCare Ministries (HCM). Teams may be requested by AG foreign fields and missionaries to come in for 1-2 weeks to staff area clinics or to provide health education. HCM also works disaster relief when requested. Specialists in many areas are needed and even medical students can be used on HCM trips. Each trip also has spaces for people without medical training but these spots fill up quickly and are often filled by family of participating medical professionals. Currently, upcoming trips are planned for Camaroon, Paraguay, BozniaHerzagovinia, Ethiopia, Ecuador, and Mongolia. Over the last 25 years HCM has held 433 clinics in 89 different countries. If you are interested in joining one of these trips, please see HCM's website at: healthcareministries.org. Close to half a million people have received treatment and had a chance to see Christ's love working before them in a very tangible way. The most recent numbers record 92,312 of the unsaved accepting Christ as a result of HCM's clinics and education programs! There are many ways we can support HCM. Most importantly we need to pray for them. At healthcareministries.org/our-projects/pray-minute is a specific list of HCM's prayer requests. There are several ways we can help HCM financially. For example, at eurasiacafe.org/store/products/Beyond-theStethoscope.html we can purchase Beyond the Stethoscope label coffee where part of the proceeds goes to support future HCM projects. Donations of supplies are also needed and a current list is available here: healthcareministries.org/urgent-needs-supplies. Our church has been blessed with many individuals with specialties in the medical field. God wants to use those talents on the mission field. Pray about getting involved, either in raising funds, collecting supplies, or going on a trip. Our missions committee is looking for someone to spearhead medical missions projects in our church, and anyone who feels God's leading in that area should talk to me or any of our committee members. God will open doors if we seek Him! -Kathi Garner

Daniel R. Tidmore is the Staff Evangelist at Grace Community Church in Salem, Missouri. Daniel is 20 years old and has been preaching for several years. Daniel is a highly anointed young man with a great revelation of the Holy Spirit. He has seen over 200 people filled with the Holy Spirit this year alone. When Daniel is not preaching revivals, you will find him helping in the services at Grace as well as working in the offices. Daniel is credentialed through the Assemblies of God and ministers throughout the nation. Daniel will be the evangelist at our Back-toSchool Spiritual Emphasis Week August 12-15. Service begins at 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 12, and 7:00 pm the remaining evenings. Nursery will be provided for each service.

Once again, another year of Vacation Bible School has come and gone. We had a wonderful time of daily sharing with children that no matter who you are, how you feel, what people do, what happens or where you are TRUST GOD! There are too many great things that happened at VBS to mention them all here but daily the altars were full, many prayers given and much of the love of Christ shown through our volunteers. Thanks to all who made it possible to serve 93 different children this summer. Without you, none of this would have been possible. You all touched the life of a young man who told us that even though his daddy was in prison, he knows that he can always trust God. And that was just one of the many lives we affected. We also took up a special missions project named RiceBowls.org, an organization that feeds children in orphanages in 15 countries around the world. This year, we almost tripled the largest giving weve ever had for VBS! We raised $1483 which will be converted into 5932 meals for orphans. Praise God! Thanks again to all of you who made it possible. -Pastor Brian & Beverly

Extreme Tween Week this year was an amazing time. We had great adventures like exploring Johnsons Shut-ins, floating down the Meramec, ice skating in St. Louis, and capped it off with a warm day at White Water and a sleepover at the church. We all grew closer as friends, as well as to the Lord. So often our tweens feel left out, struggling between not being teenagers yet, but no longer being considered children anymore, so what a blessing to get to spend time with them and show them that God thinks they are important. Although it seemed like a lot of work getting things ready, Sam, Pastor Dalton and myself couldnt have had a better week. Thanks to all who came and we hope the rest of your summer is as much fun. -Pastor Brian

This summer has been one of our best ever in the Youth Ministry at Rolla First Assembly! God has touched hearts and changed lives in this generation of young people. We have been blessed to have a team of summer interns serving and ministering with us helping us to take our summer childrens and youth ministries to the next level of effectiveness. We had an amazing t im e at youth camp with several students receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the power to Turn the Tide in this generation. We had several fun events such as ice skating, bowling, and our annual canoe trip. At the center of our youth ministry are our Wednesday night youthchurch servicesstarting with pre-service intercessory prayer from 6 to 7pm, followed by anointed student-led worship, and passionate Bible preaching from our team of leaders. We also have a Sunday night discipleship Bible study at 6pm and high school and junior high Life Groups on Sun-

day mornings in rooms 301 and 302. We also have a Sunday night college ministry that meets in the church coffee house (1603 Olive) at 6pm. If you would like more information on any of these things please call Pastor Dalton at 573-202-4208 or email pastordalton@rollafirstassembly.org -Dalton Avery

Wow! Its been hot, hot, hot; and very difficult to even think about Christmas, much less that its almost time to begin rehearsals for this years performance for our living Christmas tree. It seems like we just finished Christmas and Easter - and its already August. Each year the tree is not only a blessing to the church but an exciting outreach to the community. As the word spreads, we have more & more people from the community attending each year and giving awesome comments about the tree, the performance, and most of all, the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are age 12 and up and love to sing, please come and be a part of this joyful ministry. We again want at least 60 singers to fill the tree. Rehearsals begin Sunday, Sept. 16, at 4:00 PM in room 107 in the lower level. There will be a signup sheet in the foyer soon. -Betty May
