Your flat and study bedroom


The facilities within your flat can be summarised as follows: Flats are organised into rooms for groups of between three and eight students sharing Residents share a kitchen, a dining area and bathroom facilities All accommodation is provided on a self catering basis All study bedrooms are single occupancy All study bedrooms are provided with a link to the Universities ResNet IT system Gas, electricity and water bills are included as part of the rent. Kitchen/Diner Kitchen facilities comprise a cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, waste bin, recycle bin, storage cupboards and work surfaces. Two fridge/freezers are provided in flats of six or more students. Residents will need to bring their own cooking utensils. There is also a dining table with chairs.. Study Bedroom All individual study bedrooms have a single bed, wardrobe with hanging space, a desk with chair, a set of desk drawers, two under bed drawers, easy chair and bookshelves. The rooms are fully carpeted and curtained. Bathroom Facilities Each flat has a bathroom with a bath (with an overhead shower attachment), hand basin and toilet. For flats of 5 or more students, there is also a separate shower room with shower cubicle and separate toilet. Heating The flats have gas central heating. Residents are able to control the temperature in their study bedroom, during heating times, by adjusting the individual thermostat control on the radiator. Heating times are regulated centrally by the University. Normal provision is as follows: Winter (November to March): 07:00 to 11:00 then 16:30 to 23:00 Autumn and Spring (October and April): 07:00 to 09:00 then 19:00 to 22:00 Summer (May to September): Heating is switched off. Other facilities
Reception Students can visit the Accommodation Office at the Glenside Campus (Room 1H29). Launderette There is a laundrette on site. This is a coin operated facility. Coins required are 20p and 1 coins. Car parking Parking for residents is available in the main student car parks on the Glenside Campus. Spaces are not guaranteed and cars are left entirely at the owner's risk. Residents wishing to use the car parks must purchase a car parking permit or purchase scratch cards from on site catering outlets. Please note that there is no parking on Frenchay Campus for any students living in University Accommodation. It is an important condition of your Licence to Occupy that you must not park in nearby residential areas at any time. There is no suitable alternative parking nearby and we actively work with the Council, Police and residents to ensure students do not park on nearby streets in order to minimise nuisance and inconvenience to residents, and to promote good community relations with our neighbours. The University provides priority parking for blue badge holders. Visitors Parking Visitors to students are able to park on the Glenside campus outside the restricted hours of 09:30 to 17:30, Monday to Friday. Outside of these times a valid scratch card must be displayed. Up to date information on parking at UWE www. uwe.ac.uk/transport/ Parking for Motorbikes and Mopeds There is no designated parking on the Glenside Campus at present for motorbikes and mopeds. Bicycle storage Residents with bikes can use the lockable bike shed storage on site please ask at Accommodation Services (1H29) for access. Mail Please ensure that all mail is properly addressed to include your flat number. Mail is delivered to a secure central point and distributed each evening by the duty warden to the internal post box for your flat. If you are not at home, some post requiring a signature on delivery will be retained by the Royal Mail and will need to be collected by the addressee from the appropriate Delivery Office a card will be left informing you if this is the case. If you are not at home and a parcel requires a signature from a courier, Accommodation Services will sign for it on your behalf, you will be send either a card or e-mail advising you that we have this package and request to call to our office to collect it. Please do not sign for receipt of other peoples mail it should only be collected by the addressee. It is an offence to open other peoples mail. The University cannot accept liability for any items of mail that fail to reach the addressee. Shopping The Students Union run a shop on the Glenside Campus. Fishponds is the nearest local shopping area with a Morrisons Supermarket, banks and a full variety of local stores. There are frequent bus services to Bristol City Centre. Access and loss of keys Access to Glenside Campus Accommodation is via key (for the block, flat and room doors) If you lose your key, a replacement will be provided by Accommodation Services for which you will be charged. Replacement keys can be collected from Accommodation Services, 1H29 Glenside Campus during office hours. If you lose your flat or house keys during Office hours: You should report this immediately to Accommodation Services in person or by telephone. If you lose your keys outside Office hours: You will need to contact your duty warden during duty hours. They will be able to let you in to your flat/ house. You must collect a new key from the Accommodation Services as indicated above when the Office is next open. If any resident needs to be let into their flat on more than two occasions during their occupancy they will incur charges for every subsequent lockout. Please do not keep your property address with your keys as this is a potential security risk. If new locks are required you will be liable for all costs. This is especially a problem if you live in an accommodation block where your key opens more than one door it may be necessary to change locks to a whole flat or house for which you will be liable for the costs.

Staff
Accommodation Manager You will have a dedicated Accommodation Manager for your site who you will meet at your welcome meeting. He or she will be based at the Accommodation Office on the Glenside Campus Room 1H29.

Student wardens There are three student wardens resident at Glenside. They are available on a rota basis every day between 18:00 and 08:30. You can contact them via mobile phone (the number will be displayed on site notice boards)
