WOODTURNING NEW ZEALAND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

4 to 7 October 2012

Registration forms, with full payment, must reach the treasurer at the address shown on the form by 19 September 2012. Early Bird Prize. Registrations reaching the Treasurer by 15 August enter a ballot for one Turnfest attendance ticket valued at approximately A$495. Programme Outline: Thursday evening we have dinner and then meet, and see presentations by the 14 demonstrators. All day Friday - demonstrations to watch. Friday evening - very special woodturner entertainment. All day Saturday - demonstrations to watch and then better evening woodturner entertainment. Sunday morning - demonstrations. After lunch, the final raffles are drawn, instant gallery prizes announced, and turned wood items auctioned. Location: Wesley College, Paerata, 4 to 7 October 2012. This college is between Drury and Pukekohe on State Highway 22, or 44km south of Queen Street,Auckland, or an hour south fromAucklandAirport. Wesley College is a superb venue for this gathering. There is sleeping space for several hundred people in twin, four bed, and larger rooms. New Zealanders will have to bring sleeping bag and pillow but for those from overseas we will provide bedding for a small additional cost. This accommodation is available on a per night basis see the registration form. Maximising your time amongst woodturners greatly enhances the experience. The school facilities may not compare with your choice of hotel, but the cost will make this live-in venue far more attractive than trying to drive to almost anywhere. Dining facilities are excellent. Lunches, morning and afternoon teas, and supper are included in the symposium registration cost. Dinners are available on a per meal basis see registration form. Morning and afternoon breaks, and supper are in the Vendor Hall. Demonstrators (see the column to the right): Each room will be equipped with all the tools the demonstrator needs and there will be a video system to show the work in progress on a large screen. Every demonstrator will have some new knowledge for your benefit. It is very easy to look at their finished products and say

Spoon Competition All symposium participants are invited to make up http://learna to three wooden spoons for entry into the spoon making competition. The bout.tv/ spoon must not exceed 225mm in length and does not have to be turned on a lathe. A prize of $150 will be awarded for the best spoon as selected by Norman D. Stevens, Contemporary Wooden Spoon Collector, Connecticut, USA. He then also has the option to purchase any spoon entered in the competition. We expect to be there from about 0900 Thursday 4 October to 1800 Sunday 7 October. Flying In Try to book to arrive at Auckland Airport by mid-afternoon Thursday 4 October. Try to book to leave again mid- to late afternoon Sunday 7 October. We will be operating a shuttle bus at a small cost to you and would prefer to limit the times that will be operating. Shuttles or taxis are available at other times. Camper Vans There is plenty of space for you to park on campus but we do require that every person on campus pays the same overnight rate. Refund Policy. Cancellation of your registration and a refund of all payments made (less 10% administration costs) will be possible up to 15 September. No refunds will be made after 15 September.
