Health Fair

Senior Olympics
Romulus seniors made a proud showing in the 2012 Senior Olympics. These photos are from the opening ceremonies. Medal winners will be posted in the September 2012 editon of the Communicator senior newsletter. Congratulations to all participants. Rose Conde (left) competed in ping pong. The six-weekly sessions last 2 hours and include a half hour break for the congregate meal program. The topics: Week 1 MyPlate and Exercise Week 2 Grains, Vegetables, Fruits The program uses the USDAs and Water MyPlate as a framework and Week 3 Meat, Eggs, Legumes, includes recommendations for Milk and Exercise combining physical activity with Week 4 Fats and Sweets good nutrition. Week 5 Grocery Shopping Participants learn strategies to help: Week 6 Meal Preparation Identify nutritious food choices Discover healthy cooking methods For more information about the Healthy Eating program, call (734) Read food labels 727-2060. Determine portion sizes Healthy Eating is a program for seniors who want to learn more about how nutrition and lifestyle changes can promote better health.
Officials from the city, school district and court joined Romulus seniors at the Senior Center for an indoor picnic and ice cream social. Mayor Alan R. Lambert and other officials passed out hot dogs, chips, ice cream, other food and prizes. Representatives from United Healthcare distributed goodies.
