Sport the Look
Leading stylist and fashion
icon, Pernia Qureshi says,
Inculcating patriotic element
to your wardrobe is not that
hard. All it takes is a little
effort to show your patriotic
side. You can start with the
basics and adorn a beautiful
white outt with a tinge of
saffron and green. The colours
can be worn in the form of accessories as well.
Colour blocking is one of the reigning trends this
season and with orange being the hottest colour
around, donning a patriotic look can be swift.
While Mumbai based leading fashion designer
Atit Bhatt shares that apart from the beautiful
tri-colours people can also use national symbols
to express their love - Indian law does not allow
us to wear our national ag below the waist, but
it is possible to creatively interpret the tricolour in
an outt as seen in one of my creations. You can
use tricolour motifs in an outt or mix-n-match
separates in orange, white and green. The colours
can be incorporated in accessories like hairbands,
bangles etc. or make up, especially the eye
shadow. Love for Incredible India can also be
reected by including national symbols like lotus,
peacock or tiger print in outts. Khadi holds
a place of pride in India
and is a reminder of our
struggle for independence.
Wearing khadi garments in
itself projects patriotism and
reects swadesi spirit made
famous by Gandhiji.
Talking about how simply
one can easily put together a
patriotic look, fashion designer
Gautam Gupta shares,
People, especially men love to wear white kurta
with jeans and a stole while women can go for
saffron coloured kurtas or tee shirts with white
jeans or trousers. You can also have all the three
colours fabrics stitched together in pattis and a
kurta can be made out of it. I had previously
made some kurtas then tie and dye dupattas
in those shades.
Designer Indira Ghosh Baikeriker adds to
the styling tips and advises those who want to
adorn the colours of patriotic element, Since it is
a day of celebration for all of us and our country,
the best fusion would come with an Indian wear
or garment. I have decided to create a full length
anarkali with a detailing of these colours on
mostly the white background of the garment. All
the outts are very elegant with colours of ag
incorporated either as embroidery or shiburi tie
The US Olympic team
faunted their uniIorms
with the Stars-n-Stripes`;
Prince William sports
the Union Jack` on his
waistcoat occasionally.
The Baywatch` beauty
Pamela Anderson couldn`t
resist too and got clicked
wearing nothing but the
Old Glory`! But back
home, using the Indian
National Flag the
Trianga as a portion oI
costume is not permitted. World
over people proudly adorn their
fags on everything Irom cushions,
handkerchieIs, napkins or any dress
material including the bikini. We
have our constitutional restrictions
as Iar as our National Flag and
colours are concerned but still we
can fnd ways to wear patriotism on
our sleeves with the experts guiding
us. Dipti.P enumerates the ways by
which we can faunt our patriotism
respectIully.

dye prints. For accessories one can choose one of the colours from the tri-colour to accessorise like a
bag or shoes or an Indian batua (wallet) with glitters of green or orange on them. The basic idea of
fusion with tri-colour in the collection is - subtle infusion of these colours on the white base of the
garment. To add an easy ow to the clothing, fabrics used will be silk chiffon, georgette and nets.
Designer Harpreet Narula tells us to keep it simple and bring out the innovate side - Considering
the strict Indian code, that does not allow one to wear the Indian Flag, a little innovation is required
in order to show ones patriotic side. The easiest way to go is
to coordinate separates. Keep the silhouettes Indian and add
a modern twist with your accessories. Pair an ivory white mul
anarkali with an Ombr dyed orange duppatta, accessorized
with green like a big ring or a cuff or a smart clutch. Since the
day is all about celebrating our past heritage, dig into your
mothers closet and pull out her chiffons and silks. You can
colour-block an orange or green saree with the remaining tri-
colours and get trendy yet patriotic look.

com which is a collection of
T-shirts inspired by the various
avours of India. Traditional and
funky elements combine to form
three tee collections: Sporty,
Vintage and Hampi Revisited.
The sporty collection, designed
for the traveller who wants to
carry threads of Indian experience,
carries traditional Indian motifs in contemporary
format. The Vintage collection, drawing inuence
from 1947, is sepia-toned with an assortment of
Indian snapshots. Finally, the Hampi Revisited
collection pays a tribute to the citys austere
architecture. Deepika also has the Eri Collection

Final Touches
Designer Anushree Reddy who has recently
designed for the DhakDhak Girl Madhuri
Dixit for the popular television show Jhalak
Dikhla Ja, says, Independence Day is the most
important day for all fellow Indians. Go patriotic
in choosing your new wardrobe too. Design-wise
its no more a small ag pinned up on your outt
this very day. Elements of design can be dragged
down from Nature. Hence, bring it into life and
then into fashion leading to the beautication
of every part of life with patriotic elements. My
rst design is inspired from the patriotic colours.
Symbolising my style of designing, it has oral
prints and pretty tassels with a hint of traditional
gold in every bit of it. You cannot be literal in
terms of tri-colours; this piece is an example of
sporting the tri- colours in a beautiful combination
of ora with hints of the charkha in blue colour
with a bold border of saffron and leafy green. The
third colour white is shown in the oral tassels
with a tulle bow and golden beads hanging down.
You would have never thought that you could
wear a scarf on Independence Day and show
your patriotism right? Id say, why not make the
tri-colours a part of your wardrobe? Why not be
fashionable yet patriotic? Now is the time. Here,
I have another art piece totally inspired from
the Nature which showcases our tri colours in
the most amazing combination drawn out from
the sea pearls, green foliage and pretty saffron
owers. This is a very funky neckpiece with white
pearls and a beautiful corsage hanging down the
pearls made in green leaves and saffron petals.
This neckpiece can be worn on any pair of casuals
in simple solid colours.
She also shared tips about the tri-colour
combinations:
s 0RINTS They can be worn using the fabric
prints that you wear.
s 0AIRITUP You can always pair-up your solid
earthy colour casuals with the tri-coloured
accessories like big bangles, multiple chains
etc.
s 4HECOLOUREFFECT You can create tri colour
effect through combination of scarves.
s 3TRIPED BEAUTY Wear striped T-shirts like a
white T-shirt with very thin green and saffron
stripes
s 5SE THEM AS THEY ARE All three solid
colours could be put together as they are like
a white shirt, green scarf and saffron bangles
with a pair of navy blue denims, brown Boots
and a pair of sunglasses. You can look trendy
and patriotic at the same time.
s 'O CLASSIC Another classic way can be with
an emerald green chiffon dress with saffron
pumps and multiple strands of white pearls
on the neck.
s India is the Best - You can put together a
very Indian look with a pretty white kurti, a
pair of green patiala pants and a nice saffron
dupatta. Any age group can carry this outt
very well.
Wishes for a Happy and Colourful Independence
Day to all Fusion Life readers.
