Not Chicken
No one could ever accuse Chick-Fil-A president, Dan Cathy, of being chicken, lacking the courage of his convictions. Not surprisingly, he walked into a firestorm of controversy when he stated that he unapologetically believed in the biblical standard of one man for one woman in marriage and not in same sex union (Genesis 2:24). The militant gay rights crowd does not just want tolerance of other views but hearty endorsement. Dr. Hayes Wicker Chicago Alderman Merino announced last week that he Senior Pastor will block Chick-Fil-As effort to build a second Chicago store, saying that their values are not Chicago values because they disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents. Cathy was merely speaking as an individual Christian and not expressing company policy. However, dozens of state universities are now also bowing to the bullying and considering closing CFA stores on campuses. This is obviously a violation of the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of speech. Chick-Fil-A did not discriminate in their serving or hiring decisions according to Illinois law. Labeling conservatives as hate-mongers, radicals, or homophobes is now a typical weapon of persecution. Many in our own church have taken the biblical stance on marriage only to find that either their friends, family, or employers mock or reject them. As in many of our public institutions of higher learning, the pursuit of truth has been replaced by the promotion of a one-sided agenda. Not surprisingly, recently a church which leases space in a public school faced ejection because the pastor preached about the sin of homosexuality. America seems to be going the way of Europe. Satan certainly works on Sundays and every other day of the week! He not only promotes erosion of conviction, but also job loss and economic setbacks to communities. This is chillingly reminiscent of Hitlers progressive repression. He did not start persecution with the S.S. with their Night of the Long Knives or the death camps, but rather with economic boycotts. He used trumpedup moral outrage; then the brown shirts painted Juden on the stores of Jewish-owned businesses. Loyal Germans felt that they must follow the Nazi party line. Today, instead of painting Juden, they broadbrush us as fundamentalists or worse in order to gain control. Were in a battle for the survival of our freedoms, and as Dan Cathy noted, We are inviting Gods judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, We know better than You as to what constitutes a marriage. I want to remind Mr. Cathy and all of us of Psalm 38:19-21: My enemies are vigorous and strong, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. As those who repay evil for good, they oppose me, because I follow what is good. Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not be far from me!
