Research methodology

RESEARCH DESIGN DATA COLLECTION SAMPLING

Before starting any project, the entire procedure, techniques and tools should be decided in advance for its successful completion. The predetermined procedure, techniques, tools and their stepwise application together constitutes the Research Methodology. The nature of data (Primary, secondary), tools to be used (questionnaires, interview etc.) and the way of sampling (random, stratifies etc) should be determined on sound basis. As any wrong decision at this stage would lead to wrong conclusion. The methodology adopted for this project will be discussed in this section with proper reasoning.

Research Design
A Research design is a series of advance decisions that taken together comprise a master plan or model for the conduct of the investigation. On the basis of the objective of the study a research design can be of three types namely exploratory, conclusive and Performance monitoring. The research design for this study was exploratory. The main purpose of such studies is to determine the general nature of the problem and the variables relates to it and then to develop the working hypothesis and exploration of plausible solutions. Exploratory research determines fruitful alternatives that the decision madder would not have perceived. Data collection The most crucial stage of any research work is the collection of necessary data. The accuracy of valid conclusions from the investigation. Data is a collection of facts and figures which can be converted into useful information after meaningful analysis and interpretation. Data used for the proposed study can be classified under two heads:-

1) Primary data 2) Secondary data

Primary data: Information which has been gathered for the first time is called primary data. The researcher contacts the sources expected to have the desired information directly. These can be collected by asking questions directly to the respondents.

Secondary Data: These are the data developed or gathered for some purpose other than the problem at hand but are applicable to the present investigation. The primary data in one research may take the form of secondary data if used in another research. These can be collected either using internal records of the organization or using some external sources such as newspaper, websites, magazines etc. Methods of data collection: 1. Methods of collecting primary data: For the proposed study primary data has been collected by using two methods namely: a) Survey method b) Observation method a) Survey method: It is the most commonly used method of primary data collection. It is systematic gathering of data from respondents through questionnaire. The questionnaire is a list of questions to be asked from the respondents. It also contains suitable space where the answers can be recorded. It is a device for securing answers to questions by using a form which the respondent fills in him. The questionnaire used in this study was open-ended. (b) Observation Method: It is designed to collect information by observing the actual happening and is thus likely to be more realistic. It involves recording of events or actions as they take place in the environment. It avoids biases in response by observing respondents behavior. (2) Methods of collecting secondary data: Secondary data can be collected using different sources such as websites. Newspaper etc. In this study secondary data has been collected from the organizations official website. Various other websites, different newspapers, magazines and journals.

Sampling Sampling is the use of a definite procedure in the selection of a part for the express purpose of obtaining from it dependable descriptions or estimates of certain properties and characteristics of the whole. It allows us to concentrate our attention upon a relatively smaller number of people/ items to devote more energy to ensure that the information collected from them is accurate. It is a common practice to draw inferences about a large group characteristic on the basis of a sample just like testing the warmth of a coffee cup by taking sip. The sampling strategy adopted for this study is the probability or random sampling because of uncertain nature or the population under study. In this type of sampling every unit in a finite population has some definite chance of probability of being selected in the sample. It is highly applicable when the population under study is composed of differing groups of extremely varied sizes. This selection is in no way influenced by personal bias and predilection of the investigator.
