D A S S A U L T S Y S T E M E S Course Presentation Objectives of the course You will learn how to use the Feature Recognition tool. The Feature Recognition functionality, belonging to the Part Design toolbox, enables to build comprehensive V5 data structure for solids of which specifications are lost or unreachable, for instance when imported from another CAD system. This Feature Recognition operation allows then to operate flexible local design modifications on all kind of models, even when not initially designed with CATIA V5. Recognized Pad This isolated solid (B-Rep) can be provided by: - any CAD-system other than CATIA V5 - a migration as result from CATIA V4. Feature Recognition Operation We end up with a comprehensive CATIA V5 data structure (Product Structure), made of retrieved elementary Part Design features. D A S S A U L T S Y S T E M E S Part Analysis Tool Fillet coloration : This new command operates on any Part Design body. It recognizes all rounds and fillets in the body and colorizes them, depending on the radii and polarities. The user is able to specify the colors that are to be used for certain important radii, for instance the minimum and maximum radii. NEW from R14 ! D A S S A U L T S Y S T E M E S Feature Recognition Panel 2/4 Chain Faces option : Allows an automatic selection of the faces which are in contact with the selected objects. Especially useful when detecting a holes or grooves, of which faces are not all easily reachable. Show Labels option allows to create tags on faces that are part of recognition selection. Selected Objects : A list of the selected objects is displayed in this window. You can select as many surfaces as wanted. To withdraw a face from the selection, click it once more on the geometry. Through the Feature Recognition panel, you are able to recreate specifications for the element to be recognized, manually or automatically. Features : Major basic features can be recognized: sketch-based features (pad, pocket, hole, shaft, groove), as well as dress-up features (fillet and chamfer). In the future, other types of features will be recognizable, such as stiffeners, ribs, patterns and mirrors. Selection Type : The user can input additional information to help the objects selection, such as: a limiting face for the selection with Up to face option a Neutral Element for draft recognition Boolean and Draft : You can recognize Boolean features (add/remove), in such cases: when the initial geometry is composed of complex shapes when the recognition of standard features fails Draft can be recognized by selecting faces making the draft and a neutral surface. Manual Feature Recognition Manual FR allows to recognize a large diversity of feature types, selecting the geometry in a precise way. D A S S A U L T S Y S T E M E S Feature Recognition Panel 4/4 Automatic Feature Recognition allows a smart and immediate detection of 3 types of features: holes, fillets and chamfers. AUTOMATIC Feature Recognition Automatic FR allows a simple and fast recognition, for the 3 most common feature types. Features : The only input in an Automatic FR operation is the type of features we want to recognize, among holes, fillets and chamfers. One or several types of features can be recognized in one single operation. Selecting the 3D geometry is not necessary. The recognition is made automatically. D A S S A U L T S Y S T E M E S Tips 2/3 To visualize the whole body correctly, it is necessary to activate the main PartBody, using Define in Work Object in its contextual Menu. To perform a Feature Recognition on a Solid, the latter has to be the active element. >> Dont forget to choose Define in Work Object in the contextual menu before performing a recognition After having performed the Feature Recognition operation, the active part by default is still the initial solid, therefore the pad is not visible Tip About Active Elements Instructor Notes: Part Design Features Recognition Copyright DASSAULT SYSTEMES 21 NSTRUCTOR GUDE C o p y r ig h t
