Challenge Courses
The purpose of a challenge course is to give individuals the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skill
competency outside a formal class setting. Participants have sole responsibility to prepare for the knowledge
and skill evaluations. Anyone is eligible to participate in a challenge course.

Individuals who do not possess a current American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating the course they
wish to challenge may participate in that course once. If they do not pass the challenge course, they are
required to take the full course in that field. They are not permitted to attempt a challenge course again.

Individuals who hold a current American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating the course they wish to
challenge may do so as often as the challenge courses are available, as long as their certificates remain
valid.

Students must be able to validate current certification before being allowed to enroll in a challenge course more
than one time. Please bring proof of current certification with you to class to show your instructor. If your card
has been misplaced, contact your American Red Cross chapter where you received your certificates and ask for
proof of this.

There is no teaching, prompting or reviewing of skills by the instructor in this course.

Please call the NWNC Chapter for an appointment if you wish to challenge a CPR or first aid course. The
times and fees vary dependent upon which course you are attending.
