India Against Corruption: Time to clean system, move towards complete revolution, says Kejriwal
Tweet

NEW DELHI: After his team member Arvind Kejriwal announced the intention to formulate a political party, Anna Hazare on Friday said that their demand was to end corruption. Hazare said that he will tour the entire country for alternatives. "I will awaken people, once that happens, people will think about alternatives," he said. Hazare went on to add that the people of the country should have power. "Give people the power, they are the owners of this country," he said. Hazare's team member Kejriwal said that the public will decide the party's agenda. Kejriwal expressed confidence that India will be rid of corruption in three years. Kejriwal elaborated at Jantar Mantar on how Team Anna's political party will differ from others. "I want to tell the Congress, if they can pass the Right to Reject and Janlokpal then we will not get into politics," Kejriwal said. "Stay in Congress/BJP if you feel they can give the country a future stay with them. But, if you are frustrated come to us," he added. Kejriwal asked supporters to suggest a name for the party. Stating vehemently that the time has come to 'clean the system', Kejriwal said that the movement has entered its third stage. "From Jan Lokpal, we are moving to complete revolution," he said. Kejriwal said that after the JP movement it has taken 30 years for another movement to come. Kejriwal went on to add that the movement against corruption will now take place both outside and within the Parliament. Our laws will be decided within villages, by farmers," he said. Public will set our party's agenda, he said. Former Army chief General V K Singh also shared the dais with Anna Hazare and his team members. Addressing the gathering, Singh asked people to help Anna Hazare in the evolution of a 'real democracy'. Singh was of the opinion that 'rampant corruption' is the biggest problem plaguing the country. "I congratulate you all for deciding to join the political race," he added. Singh, who had locked horns with the government on the issue of his age, arrived at Jantar Mantar this evening where Hazare and his aides were on a fast. Singh was among 21 others who yesterday appealed to Team Anna to end their stir contending that their energies are needed for reforming the existing political system. They had also appealed to Hazare and his associates to take up the challenge to "democratise and decentralise" power while accusing the government of stonewalling the demands of the civil society and even alleged that the Opposition did not fare well on this score. Earlier in the day, Team Anna said its political alternative will not compromise on corruption, holding their fight is for changing the system and not power. "Anna is a hero of people. How long he can remain deaf to the voice of people? He has taken a decision to challenge the political class," a statement posted on the India Against Corruption website said.

"Now Team Anna is ready to enter the battlefield of politics. Now Team Anna is ready to enter the battleground to take on government. Anna has said that he will not dilute his beliefs. The political alternative that will come up will not compromise on corruption. This fight is not for changing power but changing system," it said. Meanwhile, former Karnataka Lokayukta and Team Anna member Santosh Hegde on Friday said he does not support Anna Hazare and his team floating a political party, but would campaign for candidates who identify themselves with his movement against corruption. Congress continued to take potshots at Team Anna for stating that it is considering a political alternative, saying the members always wanted to be in power. Senior Congress leader and Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan said his party had been saying it for the past one year. "The Congress party has been continuously telling for past one year that Anna (Hazare) and his team is interested in politics and they always wanted to be in power," he told reporters. Page 1 of 2
