A former administrator for Canton-Plymouth Community Schools is now the assistant superintendent for Milan Area Schools. Peter Kudlak of Saline, formerly the director of elementary education in Canton, started his new role July 1 and was formally introduced Peter Kudlak during the Milan Board of Education meeting July 11. Kudlak said he looks forward to a smaller school district and the significantly shorter commute to his home in Saline, where he and his wife are raising two boys, a fifth-grader and seventh-grader. My family likes that I will be closer and will have more opportunity to be home with them, he said. Coming from a district with 20,000 students and 26 buildings, Kudlak said, the switch to Milan with its 2,600 students and four school buildings was tremendously appealing. It will allow me to be more involved in all aspects of the schools, he said.

he Saline Summerfest succumbed to the inconsistency of Michigan weather Friday and Saturday. It was chilly, overcast and also rain showered attendees, periodically, until early on the second day of activities. All we can do is make it out there and hope people will come, said Art Trapp, coordinator of the event. I cant be disappointed. I cant control the weather. Trapp, a Saline native, has been coordinating the event for six years. He said its an intense two days, working from 6 a.m. to midnight, but he enjoys it. He has learned to shuffle the activities and throw some out, if they fail. Its a family reunion-type event, Trapp said. And Im happy people can come out and enjoy it. We try to do new things as often as we can.
