Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team Meeting July 19, 2012 Citizen's Service Center Randee Vanness from

Medical Restoration Center facilitated the meeting. Presentation by Karin Cowan, Community Outreach. Community Outreach provides residential (host homes) and vocational (supported employment) for individuals with I/DD. Community Outreach was created about 30 years ago and is only located in Colorado Springs. On the supported employment side, Community Outreach "carves out" jobs by asking what job tasks people (18 years on up) need help with, administering assessments, and then trying to match a person with a job. They also assist with completing applications and resumes and preparing for interviews. Once a job is found, employment consultants will help with the orientation process and then mentor individuals on the job. They will also ask other employees to assist with the mentoring process. Job applicants have funding from DVR that is paid to Community Outreach. DVR pays for typical job coaching for 2-3 months. At that point, the individual would have waiver services or would private pay. If the job changes, Community Outreach can help with new training. Presentation by Bob West, the Need Project. The Need Project is a website (on-line database) that was created in 2006 as a way for consumers that have disabilities (and their families) to find resources. There are monthly podcasts, interviews with local and national resources, articles & forums, monthly newsletters, and links to resources and different disabilities. Any agency can link to the database, but there is a portal that that can be used so that information is streamlined for consumers and families. Presentation by Adah Rodriguez, Aspen Pointe. Aspen Pointe offers competitive employment vs. supported employment, e.g. at the end of training, individuals have paying jobs. The employment side has been around for 1 1/2 years; it is a social enterprise - made to train consumers, not to make money. Training/opportunities can be in construction, maintenance, barista, customer service, retail sales, custodial, clerical, cashier, computer, baking, and a community garden (eating healthy & locally). Training programs are for ages 15-18 (life skills classes only) and 18-21 years of age. These services are at no cost for clients enrolled in Aspen Pointe except for the Aspen Pointe Cafe; training is billed through Medicaid. Presentation by Stacie Wyatt, Embracing Spirit Yoga. Stacie offers classes through the Therapeutic Recreation Program and is also contracted with the Foundation for Successful Living and Rocky Mountain Health Care (Traumatic Brain Injury). She uses verbal and visual cues to help individuals with I/DD or TBI and also offers caregiver yoga. The fee for a 30-45 minute class is $35. Her classes max at 15-20 for individuals with I/DD and 15 people for physical disabilities. Classes are six weeks in length: 4 weeks she teaches, and 2 weeks the students teach. Other newsworthy items: The Arc PPR's Fancy Dance is August 11th at the Freedom Financial Group. They are also hosting a Sky Sox Tailgate Party on 7/29. Connie McKenzie is the new education advocate.

SKSF is having a Family Fun Day on 7/28 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Sunnyside Christian Church. Tom Martinez has created a Colorado Springs Accessibility presentation for employers. The AT Home will be at the Freedom Financial Group on October 5-6th. If you are interested in serving eastern El Paso County or Teller County, please contact Marsha Unruh @ TRE for information on monthly community resource meetings that are held in Calhan and/or Cripple Creek. Medical Restoration Center (MRC) will be attending the Pride Fair @ Acacia Park and is also hosting back-to-school events (ADD/ADHD/Autism screenings). MRC also has a meeting room that can hold up to 30 people if anyone is in need of a conference room. Tom Martinez will facilitate the August meeting; Heather Lyons is the note taker. Respectfully submitted, Marsha Unruh
