CAPTAIN SHOUTS FORE!

What a pleasure to be back at Kyalami and at a sensible rate just a pity that they let the Ladies off late in the morning and then they played so slowly. When I spoke to the Manager, the lead 4-ball on one side had taken 2 hours for 7 holes!!! Dont ever complain about Nomads playing slowly or well lend you to the ladies! I had an especially pleasant game with the exCaptain of Kyalami, Mark Mitchley against Ronnie Sinclair and Mike Perkin, who both received new ties on the day. The Durban July tour has not been very well supported, despite our moving it back to the weekend of the July. There is a general trend across the country whereby tours are not being well supported, so we will be sending out a questionnaire soon, asking what you would prefer with regard to away tours. Please reply promptly, so that we can get this changed for next year, if that is the outcome of the poll. I had the pleasure of playing in the Zimbabwe Nationals last month and have to say that I felt that Zim is improving and things were slightly better in Harare than last time I was there (about 3 years ago!) The potholes have not got any worse and some have even been repaired (admittedly by lling them ewith bricks but at least some effort has been made) things have got a lot more expensive as a result of the dollarization, but not that much more than SA. Next years Nationals are at Hillside in Mutare (Umtali for those of us who live in the past!). I hope we can get a more substancial team together. The small team (of 3) who went this year punched above their weight Byron Price was counted out for Champion of Champions (but inevitably, the local guy won!) and Cyril Ferrer got several mentions at the wrong end of the eld. He would have won the golden matchbox, if it hadnt have been for Charlie Pedra from Northerns, who managed 11 points of a 10 handicap on the last day. Better luck next time Cyril!!! We h a d a s e v e r e p r o b l e m a t Glendower with players not putting their scores in, partly because their system crashed. However, a number of players still have not put their score in (if you do not put it in within 3 days (72 hours) you MUST put your Nomads score in as a late entry and suffer the penalty associated with that). Even if you phone your club and ask them to put it in for you, it remains your own responsibility to ensure that the score is in. The committee has therefore decided that anyone who has not put their score in from Glendower, by the next game at Glenvista will be regarded as having committed a second offence and will be penalised by a 2 shot penalty on their Nomads handicap, as required by the National Management Ruling. Fortunately, there seems to have been less of a problem at Kyalami. We are busy compiling the schedule for next year, so if you have any suggestions with regard to the playing calendar, please speak to Spero or myself, so that we can consider the suggestion. There is a National management meeting in Port Elizabeth this month and will give you all feedback from the meeting in my next report and at Glenvista.

VICE CAPTAIN LIPS OUT

It was an absolute pleasure for me to play with the Ice Creams from Easterns at Kyalami. We started at 09h30 with breakfast and at 08h30 that evening almost 12 hours later they got scared and went home !!! Thanks to Robbie Hillhouse my Easterns counter Vice Captain, Vaughan Wrighton and Warren Brits for a great day. ( No mention of bets necessary ) Thank you to Trevor Brink from Eliezer Ministries for your presentation and insight into the horrible possibilities of our kids or friends doing drugs. Thank you Nomads once again for all that you do with open arms for the charities that we support. Race Day tickets have been handed out and will be available at our next game for those who do not have theirs yet, and for those wishing to take extra books. BLAKES BLAH! BLAH!

MONTHLY GAME Its been a number of years since we played Kyalami and I must say that, for the middle of Winter, the course was in very good condition (which is more than I can say for my golf). They have certainly brought lots of water into play and I thought the greens were very good and very fast (I only had one three putt all afternoon but then I dont get to putt that often). It was such a pity that the Ladies morning field took almost three hours to play nine holes which meant we were chasing to finish before the Winter sun set but fortunately the whole field just made it. Thanks for your hospitality Kyalami it was great to be back. Kyalami are the Club that buys and sells the most peppermint liqueur in the whole of South Africa (other than the Southern Suns Group). The Kyalami Past Captain showed our Captain, Vice and Junior Vice just what they do with the liqueur in a shot glass inside a glass of beer (they call it a depth charge). Welcome to Rupert Fourie (ex Western Province Nomads) we hope you will enjoy many years of participation at Gauteng Nomads. Your adjusted Date of Joining Nomads is September 2008 for all future tie awards. Marius de Jager won his first Matchbox with a great 20 points off a handicap of 13, does that tell you something about playing off the Senior Tees! How nice it was to see Brian Kelynack at the prizegiving to receive his 30-year tie, even though he hasnt played for some time (and he turned 70 the very next day). Congratulations to Ron Sinclair and Mike Perkin who were awarded their 25 and 10-year ties respectively. Well done to Doug Hamilton on playing his 100th game and receiving his first game badge, may you enjoy working your way up to the 200 (a lot faster!). Not surprisingly the Pick Three was not won again so we will have a really big one at Glenvista. I hope the five prospective Nomads all enjoyed their afternoon with us and that it wont be too long before you are inducted. Many thanks to Andrew Mostert for a super amusing fines session but remember we always need a Group fine even if it is only R5.00 per person. BIRTHDAY & ANNIV WISHES Norman & Yvonne Murray 40th CONGRATULATIONS TO Rikki and Marelize Cor thouts (belatedly) who were married twice in February this year, rstly in court on the 9th and then in Mauritius on the 27th. Ken Jacques (also belatedly) on the arrival of his great great grandson, 6 months ago. Tony & Ana Maria Pacheco and to Hennie & Merle Ehlers on the occasion of the marriages of their respective daughters. This months Lotto draw was won by a number that has not yet been paid for, so the money has gone back into the Andrew Mentis funds. 20 Members were ned at Kyalami prizegiving for not entering their scores at their home clubs (even 72 hours after the game). It is such a pity that we have to monitor things like this, remember that a repeat of this offence could result in an even stronger penalty. Our computer wizard is trying to nd out if we, the Nomads Club, can open a round and enter your score for you after each game, we will keep you posted on that. If you would like to check your status in all of the Annual competitions, after the June game, then you must go on line, as you will not be receiving the details on paper in future.
