Social Skills
Individuals today come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. Each has gifts that make him/her shine, but may also need extra support and strategies to be completely successful. At times, the key challenge is a skill that many people take for granted. This 12 week program introduces basic social skills and offers additional support and skill-building exercises so that time with peers can become more enjoyable. For additional information regarding the Fall Session of Social Skills, please contact Kelly (Kelly.Riale@gmail.com) or Mike (mdwatkins@harfordcountymd.gov). Fall Ball
Mark your calendar for Friday, September 21, 2012, for the Fall Ball at McFaul Activities Center. From 7:009:00 pm, enjoy music, friends and food. Contact Kathy or Mike at 410-638-4899 no later than Thursday, September 20 to preregister for a $4.00 cost. The cost is $5.00 for our friends that do not call ahead. This is our dress up dance..gentleman think shirt and tie; and ladiesdress or dressy slacks.

Wednesday Night at the Movies


Everyone is invited to the ever-popular, family-oriented movies shown in the John Archer School cafeteria. While movies begin at 6:30 pm, the doors open at 6:10 pm. This program is at no cost. Halloween Bash
Attention all guys and gouls! The annual Halloween Bash is scheduled for Friday, October 19, 2012, at the Chenowith Activity Center. From 7:009:00 pm, our guests will glide across the floor in a haunting way. Call spooky Kathy or ghostly Mike at 410638-4899 to pre-register at a cost of only $4.00 by Thursday, October 18. Late callers or no callers will have to register at the door at a cost of $5.00. A costume contest will be held and the judges are looking forward to the great costumes that are always present.

Turkey Trot
Gobble! Gobble! Gobble! Friday, November 16, 2012, is a date to circle on your calendar. This years Turkey Trot will be held at the Chenowith Activity Center and you are invited. All we ask is that you call (410-638-4899) by Thursday, November 15, to let us know you are coming. Beginning at 7:00 pm and ending at 9:00 pm, the Turkey Trot cost is only $4.00 for those who call ahead. Those turkeys who forget to call will be charged $5.00 at the door.

Special Olympics Soccer Practices


Special Olympics Soccer will begin on August 28, 2012, from 6:008:00 pm at the Forest Hill/Hickory Activities Center at 2213 Commerce Road in Forest Hill. We hope to continue our Traditional and Unified teams. If interested in playing as a partner or coaching a team, please e-mail Greg Loyco at scndlf@aol.com. Coach Greg can also be contacted at 410-652-3819. Please leave a voice mail including your name and contact phone number. Also, spread the word to everyone who played last year. Of course, new players and all ability levels are welcome to participate. All athletes, partners and coaches must be registered with Special Olympics. In addition, volunteers (partners and coaches) must attend a general orientation.

Special Olympics National Golf Tourney


Harford County Athlete Chris Taylor and Partner David Cross have been selected to attend the Special Olympics National Golf Invitational in Glendale, Arizona in September. What an honor to be selected to represent not only Harford County, but also the State of Maryland. We wish them the very best in the Invitational! Rumor has it that Head Coach Gae Treviso will be accompanying them as well! Safety and success to all!

BINGO
Miss Lydia, Miss Alice and Miss Joyce are anxious to see you this year at the weekly Monday Bingo nights. Beginning on September 24, you can call out BINGO when you win. Cost is only $2.00 each evening. The Monday night Bingo takes place at John Archer School from 7:008:00 pm. Get out of the house on Monday evening for a while and have some fun with BINGO.

StoryPlay
StoryPlay is an interactive story experience for our youngest friends. The action packed hour is filled with hands-on activities geared for toddlers and preschoolers along with an accompanying adult. The toddlers use thematic pictures to guide them through play and movement. The preschoolers follow a weekly theme where story books come to life as the children act them out. Both classes use music, puppets, creative movement, props, balls, books, parachute play and much more. StoryPlay welcomes children of all abilities. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for the cards, thoughts and prayers during my recent spinal surgery and recovery. Everything went extremely well and continues to do so as the healing process is still on-going. Bowling Time
Bowling with Miss Ann resumed on the last two Sundays in August, but its not too late to join in on the fun. Sundays in September and the first two Sundays in October will find Miss Ann waiting for you to enjoy the all-American sport at Aberdeen Proving Ground from 11:00 AM1:00 PM. Cost is $5.00 to register for the bowling sessions and then $5.00 per Sunday. Shoes are at no cost to participants. Contact Miss Ann at 410-838-5026 for details.

SOHA Bowling
Not to be confused with Bowling Time is the Special OlympicsHarford County Bowling program which meets early on Saturday mornings. Participants must be registered with Special Olympics. Practices begin on Saturday, September 8, 2012. If you are interested, contact Coach Anna Church at 410-939-5749 for times and location.
