Tom Jones delights city crowd

Veteran Welsh rocker Tom Jones proved he had lost none of its potency last night in Belfast with a thrilling performance at Custom House Square as part of the Belsonic Festival. The 71-yearold Sexbomb crooner weaved his magic over the crowd following a performance by local man Brian Kennedy. Tonight James Morrison will be the main act, while David Guetta will play tomorrow. The Belsonic Festival is now in its fourth year.

Scrap parades body now, Paterson told

DUP leader Peter Robinson, backed up by unionists and loyalists of all shades, has demanded that Secretary of State Owen Paterson scrap the Parades Commission.

It follows a series of restrictions on Royal Black Institution parades in Belfast today which have sparked anger. On one of the main parading days of the year, Mr Robinson has accused Mr Paterson of doing a Pontius Pilate regarding the incompetence of the parading body in a letter in todays News Letter, which

is also signed by MEP Diane Dodds, MP Nigel Dodds, and many MLAs and councillors from both the DUP and UUP , as well as the City of Belfast Grand Black Chapter, the County Grand Lodge of Belfast and a number of bands. The letter also slammed the decision to ban the Young Conway Volunteers from Donegall

Street as monstrous. Mr Paterson responded to the criticism last night, saying should local politicians agree to alternative arrangements, and take responsibility for parading as was envisaged in the 2010 Hillsborough Castle Agreement, the Government will support them. Turn to page 6
