Nursing Management -Instruct patient not to take ciprofloxacin withdairy products such as milk or yogurt, or withcalcium-fortified juice. He may eat or drink dairy products or calciumfortified juice with a regular meal, but do not use them alone when takingciprofloxacin. They could make the medicationless effective - Tell patient that Ciprofloxacin can cause sideeffects that may impair his thinking or reactions.Tell patient to be careful if he plans to drive or doanything that requires him to be awake and alert .Instruct patient to take ciprofloxacin with a fullglass of water (8 ounces) . Instruct patient to avoid taking antacids, vitaminor mineral supplements, sucralfate (Carafate), or didanosine (Videx) powder or chewable tabletswithin 6 hours before or 2 hours after you takeciprofloxacin. These other medicines can makeciprofloxacin much

less effective when taken atthe same time Inform patient that Ciprofloxacin may causeswelling or tearing of a tendon (the fiber thatconnects bones to muscles in the body),especially in the Achilles' tendon of the heel.These effects may be more likely to occur if youare over 60, if you take an oral steroidmedication, or if you have had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant. Instruct patient to stop taking ciprofloxacin andcall the doctor at once if he has sudden pain,swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or movement problems in any of your joints. Also instruct patient to rest his joint until he receive medicalcare or instructions.
