Purpose
The purpose of this booklet is to inform and educate parents with the technological resources our site provides that will assist them with helping their children (Chester Morrison students) succeed.

Why is this important?

These resources are important because they are here to help your child become more successful in and out of the classroom. They are free resources that your child can easily access at home with an Internet connection. In states, school districts and schools across the country, there is substantial evidence that technology has become a vital component for the success of the entire educational enterprise by:

Raz-Kids has been a fantastic tool for our teachers and students. Teachers at Morrison use it for practice/review, intervention, and even assessments. It is a great tool for students to practice their reading comprehension skills, develop vocabulary, work on decoding skills, and practice many other reading standards. Also, most importantly of all, it has motivated our students to read! *The Raz-Kids animated leveled books and interactive quizzes give

educators choices. Students listen to books read aloud, read with vocabulary and pronunciation support, and read without support. They read freely in the bookroom. Or, teachers easily limit students to appropriate reading levels and specific books and track student reading progress. Students can practice reading to improve reading comprehension and reading fluency anywhere with Internet access.
Students can even record themselves reading if the computer they are using has a microphone. Teachers can then use this for a running record and use it as a legitimate assessment.

*Students improve their reading skills by:

Listening for modeled fluency Reading for practice Recording their reading Checking comprehension with quizzes

Language Arts Study Island has been a very valuable tool here at Chester W. Morrison. We use Study Island for a variety of things including...

having students practice all core standards students practice SMART Goal standards used for intervention groups (RTI) used to teach from (has many great resources to aid in lessons, including worksheets and PowerPoints) used as whole class interactive practice

The program provides differentiated instruction and review that goes beyond the textbook, including interactive activities and animations for students as they move through standards-based literacy lessons. To increase student motivation, the program allows students to complete lessons in any order, offers symbolic rewards for progress (i.e., students receive a blue ribbon when they achieve content mastery) and includes strategies to increase student self-efficacy (e.g., students experience gains in reading, goals are set for achieving specific standards). MATH RESOURCES
In addition to Study Island Math, there are many great resources for your child to practice their math skills. Visit these great links off of our web page. Please review the following mathematical resources to help get your child at grade-level, or to give them a head start for the next grade.

Math
Just like in language arts, Study Island math aids teachers in a variety of ways.

Study Island math is a great way to spiral the curriculum so that students dont forget what theyve learned and get preview of things they are going to learn. Students love playing the games that accompany the math practice. You can choose the number of questions that you want to be tested on. You can go back and review the questions you missed so you can see what you did wrong.

*With Study Island we can:

Differentiate instruction with built-in remediation to raise individual student achievement Monitor student progress with real-time RTI reporting Provide rigorous and engaging content that is continually updated as standards change Assign content to individual students based on their prescribed instructional level Adjust difficulty levels to fit each individual student's needs.
