Configuration
Select PLC When creating a new project, select the driver you require from the "Project Assistant - Select PLC" dialog box first. Click the "Parameters..." button to set the driver parameters and the station address of the Cnet module.
Note The settings on the operating unit and on the PLC must match. For commissioning, ProTool must not be integrated in STEP 7 (the menu option "Integration in STEP 7" is deactivated). To modify the parameters later, select the "PLC" in the project window and select "Properties" > "Parameters...".

Parameters
Parameters you need to set To connect by means of the serial interface, set the following parameters: Data blocks Here you set the priority of the different data block pairs. The priority specifies the frequency with which a data block pair is exchanged between the operating unit and the PLC. Priority 0 The data block pair is replaced when the operating unit: - has made a change in the block that has to be sent. - requires a data area or a tag of a receive data block as a result of the configured acquisition cycle. Priorities 1, 2 to 9 The data block pair is replaced in every, every second to ninth cycle. A cycle always begins with the transfer of data block 1 to the PLC, which then sends data block 0 to the operating unit.
Character delay time The character delay time specifies the time delay between two received characters. If no character is received by the operating unit within that period, a system message is generated. Pause Here you configure a time interval in milliseconds [msec], during which the operating unit waits after a data block pair has been transferred until the next data block pair is transferred. In this way you artificially slow down communication, thus reducing the loading on the interface. But the update rate is similarly reduced. Memory organization Here you set whether high bytes or low bytes of a data word are transferred first. Interface Here you select the interface of the operating unit on which you wish to establish the connection to the PLC. Baud rate Here you set the transfer rate from the operating unit to the PLC. Interface type You can choose between TTY and RS232, or between RS422 and RS485. Data bits 8 bit is set here. Parity Set Even here.
Release 09/02
Note The freely programmable serial interface is not available for the TD 17, OP 3, OP 7, OP 17 or Windows-based devices. The data block pairs must be of equal length and the number of words contained in each block pair must be even. For further information about the freely programmable interface refer to the "Communication" User's Manual. In Part V "Data block interface" in "18 Communication management for block drivers" and "19 Free serial interface".
