ASPHALT HANDBOOK
AND
GUIDE TO PAVEMENT
MAINTENANCEINTRODUCTION:
Asphalt paving is something you
probably don't think about too often;
but you should remember one thing:
it is a MAJOR INVESTMENT and prob-
ably the MOST EXPENSIVE item on
your property to replace if ignored or
neglected! There is one solution how-
ever:
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
Let's start at the beginning, though,
WHAT IS ASPHALT?
Asphalt is a strong, durable product
that can last for dozens of years if prop-
erlymaintained. Asphaltis a petroleum
based product that consists of rock or
aggregate, rock dust or “fines? all
bound together by hot emulsified oils,
These are the three primary ingredi-
ents (even though there are a few
others) and this definition of asphalt
may be overly simple.RECYCLING YOUR EXISTING PAVEMENT
PULVERIZE GRADE AND PAVE
In several instances, the on site recycling of existing pavement into
usable base material is a cost effective and environmentally
friendly solution to major asphalt replacement projects. Through
modern machinery and methods, IPS offers recycling procedures
that are professional, safe, Federal and State approved.
The On-site recycling pracess allows IPS to pulverize your existing
damaged asphalt into usable base material. The base material can
then be graded and compacted to insure proper drainage. This
process will add considerable strength to the foundation, provid-
ing longevity to the newly paved surface.
