Teacher-turned-writer Lisa Liggett knows all about frogs - not because she studied them in school, but because she's been out with one. And she has a very clear message to others who might be living with frogs - "stop kissing frogs and find your prince". The frog-prince scenario is, of course, an analogy Lisa has used in her book Living The Fairy Tale, the frog referring to a man who is not truly in love with a woman and who is just stringing her along. Lisa has spent more than 14 years writing the book, an autobiographical account of two major relationships she experienced. Lisa, from Tikinui in the Kaipara, says it took her years to get the right structure for the book and overcome the fear of failure.

"It became so personal, I thought no-one would want to read it and maybe the frog wouldn't want me to publish it," she says. As she worked through her issues, she discovered the "in love" formula. "I'd read lots of books that were so complex, so when I devised the formula, I thought it was really simple and would be able to help a lot of people." She says the message is clear. "Don't settle for less than in love because otherwise you open yourself up to abuse, heartache and unfulfilled dreams," she says. Lisa and her own Prince Charming have been happily married for 13 years. Living The Fairytale is in bookshops throughout Northland. - Fairfax NZ News
