APPLICATION FOR THE RECOGNITION OF A CLUB TO BE FORMED/ESTABLISHED BY PONDICHERRY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS/TEACHERS/NON-TEACHING EMPLOYEES

Name of the Club: Pondicherry University Tourism Club Person/s from which Department are interested in forming the Club: Department of Tourism Studies, Pondicherry University. Who will be eligible for membership: To begin with, membership of PUTC shall be restricted to the fulltime students enrolled for different teaching and research programs of Pondicherry University, which in due course and after taking due approvals shall be extended. The PUTC has plans to open chapters in the affiliated colleges of the University and to involve in local community extension activities like empowering the local community youths to hold stakes in tourism with the assistance of agencies like the Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation. Will there be a membership fee: Yes If yes, how much: Rs.50/Objectives of the club: The Pondicherry University Tourism Club (PUTC) shall work with the following objectives: Impress upon the younger and upcoming generation the importance and relevance of tourism in their career. Create platforms for more open expressions and exchange of ideas regarding tourism related activities. Generate student attention towards tourism and its socio-cultural, economic, and environmental developmental effects. Nullify and dilute existing misconceptions and misguided apprehensions regarding growth of tourism. Make the younger generation to participate in various types of tourism related activities. Help achieve professionalism in tourism.

2 Encourage travel mentality in the young blood and promote national integration and international amity. Identify tourist spots and become part of the community oriented developmental initiatives. Some of the Proposed Programs of PUTC Weekend skill development programs in areas like guiding, ticketing, tour handling, office management, etc. Campaigns to generate tourism awareness. Seminars and group discussions on key issues related to tourism. Experiential activities like trekking, hiking, cycle rally, excursion, etc to nearby tourist destinations. Annual World Tourism Day celebration (September 27) in the campus. A tourism quiz competition for the students of schools and colleges in Pondicherry. Meet the guest programs designed to facilitate interactions of PUTC members with tourists, especially foreign tourists, visiting Pondicherry.

Faculty and Student Coordinators: Faculty Coordinator: Babu P George, Lecturer, Department of Tourism Studies. Student Coordinators: Any two MBA (Tourism) students; one male and one female. For the first year, the following names are proposed: Pravida Menon & Krishna Chaithanya Reddy (Both MBA Tourism I year) (The Faculty Coordinator can assign responsibilities to the Student Coordinators. There shall also be a Working Committee of students to assist the Student Coordinators in looking after the day to day functioning of the Club. The election of Student Coordinators and the Working Committee Members shall be conducted through a democratic process. The functioning of the Club shall be under the overall

Sources of funds: Membership fee; sponsorship may be accepted to organize special events. Auditing of funds: The faculty coordinator shall keep an account of all the funds. The PUTC shall abide by the Pondicherry University regulations prevailing from time to time in all aspects related to fund management and agrees to let the IAO audit its accounts. Whether any film/ exhibition will be screened/ displayed? Probably, yes. In all such cases, the advisory committee shall certify that the contents are within the generally acceptable norms and the ViceChancellor shall be taken into confidence.

Nature of Pondicherry Universitys financial assistance to the Club: Nil. Also, the club agrees to pay any nominal amount that may be levied by the University for making use of its major facilities.
