Comprehensive flowmetering competence

Accurate flow speed measurement of liquids with varying consistencies, of gases or vapors plays a highly important role in process automation. With its time-tested SITRANS F family, Siemens has developed a comprehensive product program ranging from simple flow indicators to highly sophisticated, bus compatible measurement converters. The optimal flowmeter for all special measurement tasks this is the motto Siemens has chosen to describe a comprehensive program of powerful devices utilizing various measuring methods magnetic-inductive, ultrasound, mechanical or based on the Coriolis massflow principle. Whether for measuring media temperatures of 238 F to +482 F (150 C to +250 C), conductive or non-conductive materials measurements, utilization in standard or hazardous environments Siemens flow product portfolio offers the right flow meter. Providing consultation to customers from the planning phase, they are happy to accompany projects through to installation if so desired.

Magnetic-inductive flowmeters Used to measure the volume flow of electrically conductive media. Measurements subject to calibration standards, as well as special applications for measuring pulsating flows, sludges or slurries can also be conducted. Ultrasonic flowmeters Used to measure homogeneous conductive and non-conductive liquids. Apart from the standard volume flow, the ultrasound flowmeter provides information on media quality and temperature. Measurements subject to calibration standards can also be undertaken. Coriolis mass flowmeters Used to measure liquids and gases. In addition to mass flow, the Coriolis mass flowmeter, a universal measurement device, provides information on media density, fraction and temperature. Variable-area flowmeters Used to measure the volume flow of homogeneous liquids and gases. Variable-area flowmeters require no external power source and provide accurate metering data even where longer in- and outflow runs are not available. Rotary piston meters Used to measure the volume flow of conductive and non-conductive liquids. High viscosity media, acids and alcohol-based concentrates are accurately recorded. Even measurements subject to calibration standards can be undertaken. No inand outflow runs required.

Orifice flowmeters Used to measure volume flows of liquids, gases and vapors. High media temperatures and large bores have no influence on performance. Flow indicators Used to indicate the volume flow of liquids using a measuring valve.

With a wide range of field devices, Siemens is able to offer its customers in the process and hybrid industries optimal tailor-made solutions. Thanks to their increasingly sophisticated technological capabilities, field buses are now able to communicate with the control system. SITRANS F M Magnetic-inductive Flowmeters

Magnetic-inductive flowmeters (MID) are ideally suited for measuring the flow of almost all conductive electromagnetic liquids, as well as for sludges, bulk solids and slurries. The one precondition: at least minimal conductivity within the medium. Temperature, pressure, viscosity and density have no influence on the measurement result. The magnetic flow measurement principle is based on Faradays law of induction. When a conductor within a magnetic field is set in motion, a voltage is induced within the conductor.

SITRANS F M MAGFLO MAGFLO flowmeters are highly flexible in their design no matter whether small or large bore diameters, compact or separate design, analog or digital transfer of the output signal. Highly flexible Compact or remote installation using the same converter and sensor Uniform communications platform USM II for easy integration in various bus systems Easy startup Calibration data and user settings are automatically stored by SENSORPROM Instant measurement performance immediately upon startup. The converter adopts all relevant data automatically from the SENSORPROM Easy maintenance Replacement of the converter requires no programming. Upon initialization, the SENSORPROM updates all settings automatically. Extensive self-diagnostic function for error indication and recording Sound investment security through easy upgradability Plug & Play communication modules are available in a wide range of bus protocols Also available as add-on modules for future upgrades Long-term accuracy The MAGFLO Verificator enables on-site inline performance monitoring of the complete flowmeter system without systems operation interruption

Electric coils in the converter generate a consistent magnetic field. The electrically conductive liquid flowing through the metering pipe induces a voltage proportional to the flow velocity. This voltage is registered by the electrodes of the sensor and transferred to the converter for signal processing. Taking the bore diameter into account, the converter then calculates the current flow volume. Thanks to their accurate and reliable measurement capabilities, easy installation and startup, operability and maintenance, magnetic-inductive flowmeters are the most commonly used flow measurement devices in the industry.

USM II, the Universal Signal Module based on the simple Plug & Play principle, allows for easy flowmetering integration in almost any system. Flowmeter upgrades for new communications platforms in the future are also easily performed.

The MAGFLO verificator monitors and documents the accuracy of the entire measured area on-site.

Water
Water is one of the most precious resources on our planet. A highly accurate recording capability of consumption levels is indispensible. This also presupposes the option of onsite assessment with utilized measurement devices. Sanitary metering pipe linings for use in drinking water systems are just as indispensible as abrasion and chemical resistant linings used in sewage facilities.

SITRANS F US Ultrasonic flowmeters

Until recently, the factors of low flow velocity and small nominal bore posed the greatest hindrance for a precise flowmeter measurement. Particularly in those fields in which magnetic-inductive processes could not be utilized e.g. in organic chemistry. Here the new ultrasound flowmetering technology of SITRANS F US provides an excellent solution. Ultrasonic flowmeters supply much more information about the measured media than simply current flow data. Through analysis of the ultrasonic velocity and amplitude, the customer is also provided with information about the media quality. Possible process fluctuations are thereby quickly and reliably identified.
Measuring principle: The ultrasonic delay measuring method is based on the principle that the ultrasonic signal travels faster in the flow direction of the media than against it. The delay time is proportional to the flow velocity. Since the delay time is measured at short intervals both in and against flow direction, viscosity and temperature deviations of the measured media have no influence on the measurement accuracy. The helix factor in SITRANS F US The SITRANS F US operates by sending a helix-shaped ultrasonic path through the measuring pipe. By artificially elongating the sound path, a greater delay difference is achieved, and a significantly better sampling of the flow profile within the measured pipe run can be conducted. Customers profit from significantly increased measurement accuracy even with small nominal bores and low flow rates both with laminar and turbulent flows, as well as in the transitional area. Direct signal processing used in SITRANS F US SONOFLO With SONOFLO, the signal is sent directly and without deflection to the bore wall from the transmitter to the receiver. Here also measurements are taken at short time intervals both in and against flow direction, so that temperature and viscosity fluctuations have no influence on the measurement result. This direct signal guidance is utilized particularly in larger nominal bores, higher flow rates and with highly sound-absorbing media.

Process Industry
Conditions in the process industry place extreme demands on modern measurement technology. A robust housing design is therefore just as essential as comprehensive diagnosis options, field bus capabilities and hazardous approvals.

Sound path SITRANS F US SONOFLO

SITRANS F US The SITRANS F US measures clean liquids from 4 F to +356 F (20 C to +180 C) in all mounting positions, even in hazardous environments. Thanks to its helix shaped sound guidance, it supplies the highest possible accuracy even in small bore diameters and at extremely low velocities. With the integrated HART protocol and optional PROFIBUS PA interface, the unit is superbly equipped for utilization in the process industry. SITRANS F US SONOFLO SONO 3100 The SONO 3100 is ideal for difficult applications where scale build-up can pose problems e.g. processes with water and treated wastewater, or in petrochemical flow processes. The ultrasonic sensors are easily replaced without systems operation interruption. As such, the SONO 3100 offers the highest possible performance for operating conditions that routinely push flowmeter capacity to the limit. Pressure ratings up to PN40/ANSI 300 lbs are standard, with higher ratings also available for customer-specific units.

The integrated LCD display indicates and stores current measurement values. Measurement data can be transferred to a handheld INFOLOG or PC via the infrared interface

Water
Flow rate measurements play an increasingly important role in the water industry. Measuring devices frequently require retrofitting, without the possibility of emptying the pipeline. The irrigation of agricultural surfaces also takes on ever greater significance. Power sources are rarely available at the measuring point. In this case, batterypowered devices handle the equal water distribution.

SITRANS F C Mass flowmeters

SITRANS F C MASSFLO MASS 2100 with adapter element

Functional principle: the measured media is channeled through a defined pipeline and accelerated vertically to the flow direction. The Coriolis induced energy creates vibrations of the pipeline, which can either be measured at the pipeline itself or at the fittings. The measured vibration is proportional to the mass flow rate. Multi-parametric process information In addition to conducting highly accurate mass flow measurements, SITRANS F C MASSFLO also measures the exact volume flow, density, fraction flow and temperature. This information provides vital data on the process status, making additional measuring devices virtually superfluous. The density is measured with a margin of error of less than 0.09346853 ounces/ gallon (0.0007g/cm3), and the temperature with a margin of error of less than 41 F (0.5 C). Easy to install Maximal durability MASSFLO flowmeters are designed for easy installation and optimal durability against external vibrations. Upstream or downstream pipe runs are not required.

Modularity on a new level MASSFLO flowmeters are fully user configurable both in terms of software and hardware. Thanks to an Addon module, the intelligent USM II Universal Signal module platform allows for retrofitting of desired individual functions. Once installed, the module is automatically identified and programmed to factory settings via the SENSORPROM flow storage unit. In addition to its modularity capabilities, the USM II platform handles a wide range of communication protocols, e.g. HART, PROFIBUS or Can-Open. The multi-purpose modularity capabilities also find expression in the unique interface between the measurement sensor and signal converter: the standardized plug connection is identical for sensor and converter types.

SITRANS Flowmeters Quality that you can rely on. We guarantee it!

How we calibrate: SITRANS F flowmeters are individually calibrated at our calibration facilities. The calibration data of all electronic flow sensors is stored on-site for future reference. Flow measurement accuracy is also safeguarded if the converter is replaced. All sensor data is automatically transferred to the replacement converter via SENSORPROM or smartPLUG. In addition, each converter is subjected to an electronic test to ensure correct conversion of the sensor signal. This allows for any converter to be connected to any sensor of the same product series. That is to say that the product portfolio is highly flexible. Siemens mechanical flowmeters are individually calibrated and rigorously tested before leaving the factory. Several of our calibration laboratories are EN 45001 accredited general criteria for testing laboratory operations , and recognized, among others, by UKAS and DANAK.
