Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North A MAIN STREET FOR KANATA

Plans for a Main Street for Kanata were included in the Town Centre Plan approved by the City of Kanata in the 1990s. One part of this plan was to have a traditional main street with a town square, City Hall, buildings with main floor retail (including sidewalk cafes) and residential above. The community at the time participated in a visioning exercise to determine what the Town Centre, and particularly Main Street, would look like. The City of Kanata purchased lands east of Kanata Avenue so that a 20 acre park could be included and that the Main Street would meet the vision the residents had selected. These lands are still undeveloped and are now owned by the City of Ottawa. Later this fall the City will be putting out a call for proposals to develop this land in conformity with the vision. Since more than 10 years have passed since the vision plan was made Id like to get the feel from present residents on whether they agree with the vision or have suggestions to change it. Hence, at the Ward Council Meeting on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 7 pm I will be reviewing the vision plan with residents, including showing some of the photos used to garner feedback on what was wanted. The report will also be added to my website once scanning it in is completed. All Kanata and area residents are welcome to attend at the Kanata Senior Centre Program Room, 2500 Campeau Drive.
