KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North KANATA AVE.

CLOSURE
Late last week I was notified of the closure of Kanata Ave. from the Goulbourn Forced Road (GFR) to the Stitkine/ Keyrock intersection from July 7 to July 14. As this will affect many people, Ive asked if it would be possible to have one lane open for those who get caught by this closure, since the detour is very long. Youll know by now if Ive been successful. The closure is to install a water main and sewers to serve the new development which must be done before the road reconstruction starts later this year. Watch for notice of a meeting to review the final design for the road construction from the GFR to the Richardson Side Road and for the GFR to Keyrock.

KANATA NORTH HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DEPOT

On Sunday July 12 from 9 am to 4 pm you will be able to take your hazardous waste to 411 Legget Drive in the Kanata North Business Park. You dont even have to get out of your car as attendants will do the unloading! To determine what to bring, go to www.ottawa.ca/hhw. Small batteries, except for rechargeable ones, can be deposited in the receptacle at the Beaverbrook Library during library hours.

PARK DEVELOPMENT
Its wonderful to see the new park on Walden being enjoyed by so many children and their parents. Now I want to see the same at three park sites that are overdue for construction. The Keyrock Park in Kanata Estates will be built to the Citys plan by Richcraft as soon as they get an agreement signed by the City. Park staff have been pushing hard to get our legal department to finalize the agreement and Richcraft is ready finish it.

In Briarbrook there are two parks waiting Sandhill and Brookside. Two different developers are involved and weve been waiting for over a year for each to finish the grading and installation of services required under their subdivision agreements. This week Ive raised the heat on them and work will either start or the City will undertake the work and charge it back to the securities held for each development. There are many children in the new homes in the area that deserve to have a completed park. The designs for both were completed last year and include play structures, soccer fields and, in one, a splash pad.

CARP LANDFILL AND CARLETON UNIVERSITY

Carleton University has created a community based research partnership related to the Carp Road Landfill. It is just starting and will involve community-based workshops to ensure that university researchers will be working in partnership with community groups. Research priorities have been identified within three categories environmental, human health and socio-economic factors.
