What Were Learning

Math: We have been working on how to recognize and draw shapes. We have also been exploring various math tools that we will use throughout the year. Writing: We have launched our writers workshop! During writers workshop we draw and write about real things that happen in our lives. Handwriting: We follow a program called Handwriting Without Tears to learn how to properly hold a pencil and write the letters of the alphabet. So far we have been working on pencil grip and have just begun getting familiar with the terms we will use to teach the letter formations. (big line, little line, big curve, little cure). Reading: We have continued to establish the rules and routines for our core reading curriculum the Daily 5. So far we have learned how to read to self and work on words. We have also begun learning the letter sounds.

Art: Last week we were inspired by the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky by coloring concentric circles. Next time youre at school, check out the great work hanging outside our room!
Science: We have been learning about the 5 senses in science. So far we have learned about sight by using magnifying glasses, touch by feeling inside mystery bags without looking, and sound by learning about high and low pitches with instruments on the Smartboard.

Reminder: Dont forget to check the snack calendar and send snack with your child on the appropriate day.

Bake Sale
Wednesday there is a cart that comes around to each classroom with treats to purchase. If your child would like to buy something please send 25 in a bag, envelop, etc. with his or her name on it on Wednesdays.

Scholastic Book Club Orders

The September Scholastic book club orders that were sent home last week are due by next Wednesday, September 12th. If you would like to purchase anything from any of the order forms please use our class activation code online or send the order form and money back in to Miss Miller.
