KANATA NORTH NEWS

Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North WARD COUNCIL The first Kanata North Ward Council Meeting of the fall will be held on Monday Sept. 19th at 7pm in the program room of the Kanata Seniors Centre, 2500 Campeau Dr. There will be a presentation on the development planned for land along Terry Fox by the Richardson Side Road. I will also provide an update on zoning requests for an apartment at Herzberg and Terry Fox and on changes to the urban boundary. I welcome comments on the changes to bus routes that commenced this month as well as input into the budget. Everyone is welcome to attend. EXPO 55+ On Friday Sept. 16th Expo 55+ will be held at the Mlacak Centre to showcase the services available to seniors in our community. This event is jointly sponsored by the two Kanata Councillors as a means of having information about non-profit services that are available to seniors, at one place and time. As well as displays and information, there will be draws for great prizes and refreshments. Mayor Watson will be attending as well as Councillors Wilkinson and Hubley. A companion event, The Retirement Living Fair, hosted by the Kanata Seniors Council, is taking place on Sunday Oct. 2nd from 2-4 pm in the Mlacak Centre. These events are complimentary and together provide a wide array of what is available in our community. KANATA RACE DAY Thank you to those who participated in Kanata Race Day last Sunday and helped us to publicize the Kanata North Recreation Complex and the wonderful facilities that will be available to us within two years. And a very big Thank you to the volunteers who organized and ran the race and the special activities which followed. They are helping to raise the funds for the larger pool requested. Over the next year you will hear more about this complex and you can help us to raise these funds. If you are willing to help out with this fundraising please contact my office. BUDGET IDEAS

Dont forget to send in your ideas for the 2012 City budget. Send your ideas to the Mayor at Budget2012@ottawa.ca and copy me at Marianne.wilkinson@ottawa.ca. The timetable for dealing with the budget has just been set. It will be tabled on October 26th, then taken to Public Meetings from Nov 1 to 4, with the one for the West End on Wed. Nov 2nd at Holy Trinity Catholic School from 7 to 9 pm, discussed with public delegations at Council Committees and Boards from Nov 7th to 28th and debated an approved at Council on Nov. 28th. This is a quick turn around so I would appreciate hearing your views as soon as possible so I can look into them and respond. The rate budget (water, sewer, waste) will be tabled and discussed at the Environment Committee on Jan. 31, 2012. Hearing from the public is scheduled for Feb. 20th followed by debate and approval by Council on Feb. 22nd. ECO-STEWARDSHIP FAIR This environmental event, celebrating green living ideas, products and services, is on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 10 am to 5 pm at Carleton University Fieldhouse, Bronson & Sunnyside, Ottawa. Find out how you can help the planet, save money and improve your health by learning more about local food, nature, transportation, energy, lifestyle, home and garden, moms and babies, health and wellness and more! It features more than 125 exhibits; cooking demonstrations; local wine and beer tastings and Children's Eco-Carnival. In addition to the cooking demonstrations, the Ottawa Eco-Fair will again offer a 100-mile Lunch featuring food from local producers and suppliers that had visitors raving at last years EcoFair. For more info go to www.ottawaecofair.ca. Free admission and parking. POLICE STATION HOURS CHANGED The Ottawa Police Station on Huntmar is now open from 7 am to 9 pm, Monday to Friday. The police are reminding you to lock your car and keep valuables out of sight. With children back in school remember to drive carefully and keep our children safe. STATEWOOD AT TERRY FOX A public meeting to discuss the proposed closure of the access to Terry Fox at Statewood is planned for the week of Sept. 26th. I will confirm the time and place shortly.
