MAINTAINING BEAVERBROOK
Bill Teron, the founder of Kanata, John Mlacak, former Reeve of March Township, Gary Sealey, President of the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association (KBCA) and I have met to discuss ways to maintain the character of Beaverbrook Community. We are putting together information on how Beaverbrook was developed, and our individual roles in the community, in a publication that will be provided to all residents of Beaverbrook. Residents are being asked to review this material and provide their views on the future of the community. Your opinions will help us to decide how to deal with development proposals in our community. Those participating in the Beaverbrook Travelling Dinner on Nov. 26th are encouraged to discuss the material during the evening. In the 1970s residents participated in KanPlan when we developed the vision for the development of Kanata. It is time to revisit that vision, starting with Beaverbrook, to ensure those characteristics that are important to our communities are protected and retained.
SNOW ITEMS
Yes, snow is coming and the City is prepared to deal with it. Residents are reminded that between Nov. 15th and April 1 parking is not permitted on the street from 1am to 7 am, when there is a forecast for a snowfall of more than 7 cm. Vehicles parked on the street when this restriction is in effect will be ticketed, even if it does not snow. Sign up for the free e-mail or Twitter notifications at ottawa.ca/winterparking for notification of overnight parking restrictions. Seniors and persons with disabilities can register for the Citys snow removal assistant programs in Kanata, by contacting the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre at 613-591-3686. The program is cost shared at 50% of the cost, to a maximum of $250 for approved recipients. Remember to drain your rain barrel and all hoses. Leave the spigot in the open position and consider storing the barrel in your garage or basement or under a deck to avoid it blowing away. Also drain and close outside taps. Preparing your home for winter will save problems in the future.
