Back to School Safety Across the city, children are back to school and I would like to remind residents

to be cautious when driving, especially when near school zones and school buses. Children are apt to cross roads mid block so keep your eyes on the road and DO NOT use electronic devices, like cell phones. At the end of August, five portable variable message signs were posted by the City at high-traffic intersections, and will be in place for two weeks. As well, the Ottawa Police Service will be focusing on back to school road safety education and enforcement. Remember to drive the posted speed limit, and to stop for school buses when lights are flashing. Urban Boundary Ive been informed that the OMB has approved an expansion to the urban boundary along March Road as far as St. Isidores. Ill be working with Councillor El-Chantiry to develop a plan for that area that will involve full public participation. Details will be available later this fall. Development Items On August 27, 2012 a meeting was held on the development application for 1131 Teron Road, and nearly 300 residents came out to view the proposals and respond with their views. The proposal is for 6 townhomes and 173 units in an apartment block, which ranges from 10 to 15 storeys. Residents are concerned with the height, setback from Teron Road, and traffic. The intersection of Steacie with Teron is already rated as a failed intersection so more traffic would simply make it worse. City staff are evaluating the proposal against Official Plan policies and expect that their report will be going to Planning Committee in October. A revised proposal for 2 The Parkway has been submitted which still has an apartment of 10 storeys from the current ground level but has added 20 townhouses as well. I am discussing this proposal with community representatives as well as discussing it with city staff. At this time it is scheduled to go to Planning Committee Sept 25th but check ottawa.ca to confirm that date.
