Notes Abbreviation Description Characteristic Strength (M30) Target Mean Strength (Fck+1.64*SD) Fck - 4 (Fck + 3 * SD) (Fck + 2 * SD) (Fck - 2 * SD) or (Fck - 4)
If a margin of (3 * SD) is adopted there is very little chance of a result falling outside this limit due to natural variation The probability of two consecutive results falling oustide the warning limits is only 0.21% if we adopt (2*SD) Whichever is higher

Observations: 1 The Presence of one or more points lying outside of the Upper Control Limit (UCL) is primary evidence that the system is out of control at that point, an immediate investigation into the cause should be undertaken (Sample 2 outside UCL) 2 The Presence of two consecutive, or more than 1 in 40, points beyond upper warning limit(UWL) is evidence that the process is out of control and an investigation of data should be undertaken. ( Samples 10 & 11 outside UWL) 2 3 The individual test sample should be greater than F ck - 4, (ie., 26 N/mm in this example.) 4 The Control limits are determined by the standard deviation, it is therefore important to monitor the standard deviation. 5 Lesser the standard deviation, means the process is under control. 6 If a margin of (3 * SD) is adopted there is very little chance of a result falling outside this limit due to natural variation (ie., aggregate grading, batching accuracy, sampling etc) 7 From the chart, it is visible that the magnitude of variation is more and necessary action should be taken 8 For best quality control the graph should be closer to TMS with minimal variation on either side 9 Standard deviation should be below 2.5
