Export Update

Apparel Export has shown 18.9% growth in the February of FY 2011-12 Apparel exports have reached at USD 12145 million in the month of February of financial year 2011-12 with a growth rate of 18.9 per cent against the corresponding period of last year. In February 2012, exports increased by 1.5 per cent against the corresponding month of last year. In rupee terms, the exports have increased by 9.8 per cent in February 2012 over the same month of the previous FY. In the last financial year exports increased by 4.2 per cent from the previous FY 2009-10 and totaled to USD 11163 million in April-March 2010-11.

Apparel Imports of US
Apparel imports of the United States witnessed an increase of 9.4 per cent in January 2012 from the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to 6.7 billion dollars. For the same period, US imports of apparel from India increased by 2 per cent to USD 308.6 million in January 2012 against USD 3.2.8 million in January 2011. US imports from China saw an increase of 8.3 per cent in January 2012 over the corresponding period of last year and all the other major suppliers like Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Mexico also witnessed increase of 15.4 per cent, 17 per cent, 14.3 per cent, and 11.8 per cent respectively. Among the top six suppliers, Indonesia registered maximum growth from the same month of previous year.

Apparel Imports of EU EUs apparel import accounted for USD 94317 million for the year 2011 with an increase of 14 per cent over the same period of the previous year. Indias export to EU for the year 2011 amounted to USD 6462 million with an increase of 15.4 per cent. In the year 2011, highest increase in EUs import is registered by Bangladesh (35.34 per cent) followed by India (15.45 per cent), China (9.71 percent) and Turkey (9.44 per cent). In the month of December 2011, compared to the same month of last year, all top five suppliers registered decrease in the import of EU. Highest fall in import has been registered by India followed by Turkey. Apparel Imports of Canada Canadas imports of apparel from India from January to December of 2011 accounted for USD 313.7 million with an increase of 14.2 per cent as compared to corresponding period last year. Its total import of apparel from the world for January to December 2011 amounted to USD 8677.1 million with an increase of 15 per cent against January to December 2010. China, Bangladesh, Cambodia, United States, Vietnam and India were the top suppliers of apparel to Canada. Among the top apparel suppliers, China, Bangladesh Cambodia, United States, Vietnam and India saw an increase of 10, 32.9, 49.6, 5.9, 29.3and 14.2 per cent respectively in apparel exports to Canada from January to June 2011. Indias apparel export to Canada from January to December 2011 accounted for USD 313.7 million with an increase of 14.2 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of last year. Its total import of apparel from the world for 2011 amounted to USD 8677.1 million with an increase of 15.1 per cent from 2010.
