Bronte School Deputy Heads Newsletter

7th September 2012

I hope you all had an enjoyable summer break and welcome back to what promises to be a busy autumn term. We would all like to offer an especially warm welcome to our new pupils and their families. You will have received a letter concerning Mr Dysons absence earlier in the week. I am happy to tell you that his procedure went well and he is now home and recuperating. I am sure you will join me in wishing him all the very best for a speedy recovery. The juniors have begun the term with a very busy week visiting the Paralympics. They enjoyed watching the games and it was super to see how successful the athletes were and how they managed so well with their various disabilities. We also received some super comments about how well behaved the children were which is always good to hear. During the holidays we had work carried out to the building which included getting rid of some asbestos from the boiler room and a small panel from the science room stairwell. New cloakroom facilities have been constructed on the top floor for Yrs 3 and 4. New furniture has been ordered for the library and Mr Dysons office, along with a few funky chairs for the reading area in Year 6. We are expecting delivery of a magnetic game of snakes and ladders which was kindly purchased by Year 6 Enterprises last term thank you to them and I am sure the children will enjoy playing with this during their playtimes and lunchtimes. Information about the Bronte Friends 100 Club was sent out to you earlier in the week. Thank you to all those who have responded so far. If you would still like to join in the 100 club with a chance to win one of the half-termly cash prizes, then please let us have the forms back as soon as possible. Outings and photograph permission forms have been sent out with this newsletter. It would be appreciated if you could return them as soon as possible, but certainly by the end of next week. Thank you. In relation to uniform, Monday 8th October is the date by which the children need to be in winter uniform. Please note that the old-style blazers are no longer acceptable as they have been discontinued for some time now. For those parents who are new to the school, and a gentle reminder to those who arent, please do not park in the car park between 8.30am and 8.50am, and 3.20pm and 3.45pm, when the children are entering/ leaving school as this poses a safety risk. Also, please be considerate when parking along Pelham Road and do not park across peoples driveways as this understandably antagonizes our neighbours. Thank you. We were pleased to have a visit from an ex-pupil, Matthew Roe, this week who informed us that he had successfully gained a place at Lincoln University to study History and Politics. Well done! Its so nice to hear about the successes of past pupils once they have left Bronte School. Finally, we have our Kent Tests (11+) next week and we wish the children taking part all the very best of luck.

The termly calendar of events was sent to you earlier this week, so please take a close look and pop the relevant dates into your diaries. You should also soon be receiving a termly parents letter from your childs class teacher informing you of the areas of the curriculum that your son/daughter will be studying this term. Class teachers will also be in touch with you to invite you to a meeting to talk about the new academic year and expectations/routines etc. Clubs start next week. In relation to the drama club, please note that it will not be happening this term as we are still in discussions about timings etc. We will give you more information as soon as we can.
