Community Contacts The Everett Rotary Club's Next Generation Project and Scholarship Committees met jointly to discuss

s implementation of the signature project that supports the AVID program students at Everett and Sequoia. JoAnne Fabian and I attended, as she has provided considerable support to the Rotary in designing the project, and I have been working with the committees for some time. The YMCA Board of Trustees, of which I am a member, met Wednesday morning at the Mill Creek facility. I facilitated a strategic plan implementation process with the board, and have agreed to chair the strategic planning committee this year. Lynn Lahey, Cynthia Jones, and I attended the Annual Fundraiser Luncheon for the Greater Trinity Academy. The keynote speaker was Mrs. Jackie Bezos, President of the Bezos Family Foundation, who serves as chair of Thrive by Five, the statewide early learning initiative for Washington, as well as on the advisory boards of the Institute for Learning and Brain Science, Teach for ALL and Global Nomads Group. The second and third superintendent evaluation project meetings were held this week, with the latter held at the Northwest ESD 189 superintendents' meeting in Anacortes. Stanwood-Camano Island School District's Superintendent Jean Shumate met with me this week to review the status of the superintendent evaluation project, and to discuss ALE audit challenges similar to those we experienced with the State Auditor's Office. Staff Contacts My beginning-of-the-year school visits continued with visits to Silver Firs, Cedar Wood, Woodside, Forest View, and Silver Lake Elementaries, Gateway, Evergreen, and Heatherwood Middle Schools, and Cascade and Jackson High Schools. At each school, I was able to meet with the principal, and staff, and enjoyed lunch with the students in a couple of instances. I visited Cascade High School to observe a football practice, and observed practice at Evergreen Middle School as well. The Superintendent's Leadership Team planning group met to solidify our meeting plans for the year. Assistant Superintendent Peter Scott is leading the group this year, as he works toward earning his superintendent certification. We conducted two 8-day enrollment meetings to confirm enrollment trends, review individual class sizes in each elementary, and adjust staffing accordingly. Superintendents Cabinet discussed the technology action plan status report that will be presented at the September 25 board meeting; reviewed opening-of-school feedback; developed the agenda for the next Presidents Council meeting; and planned for upcoming board meetings. In preparation for moving to the new CRC, we discussed the Cabinets role in the transition, and room naming conventions that we will adopt now in advance of moving. Architect Mark Spitzer talked with us about transition planning for the new CRC, and shared photos of the interior of a building in Seattle which supports their culture of collaboration. (This relates directly to a new superintendent performance goal.) The topic of the all-principals' meeting this week was the AWSP Framework and Rubrics for principal evaluation. The guest speaker was the director of special programs in the Anacortes School District. We also reviewed the EEA-EPS CBA provisions related to colloboration time on Fridays.
